Wet Olympians!

It poured here today!  We were supposed to have several events outside today, but because of the weather we moved some of them inside the clubhouse.  The pool events, laps and pool volleyball, were cancelled but we putted and threw bean bags inside!

What fun!  The weather inside the clubhouse was perfect, while outside it was raining cats and dogs!!  Tomorrow will be the completion of the Olympics for 2015.

I came home and watched an episode of Downton Abbey while I waited for Dave to get home.  Then we watched the Cyclones lose to KSU - bummer!

Start of the Olympics

We started our Senior Olympics today, even though it was pretty chilly outside.  Today's events included Ladder Golf, water balloon toss, frisbee throw, bonanza bingo, and washer toss.  Tomorrow's events start at 9:00 AM and won't be done until about 9 tomorrow night - a long day!  Then there are a few more events on Sunday and a potluck and awards Sunday night.

Tonight I went to play 7s and when we finished, Dave and I went to Bob & Ann's to see Linda and Kaylee before they leave in the morning.  They were playing Michigan Rummy and I got to play, too.  That's a fun game!!

Dave went to Bradenton to help Pat & Milt gut their condo.  Jami called and they accepted an offer on their house.

Thursday

We had a good day today.  Dave and I went over to sit outside with the family this morning (it was warm then!)  They left to go to Maggie Mae's and we came home for breakfast.  Then Dave ran a couple of errands while I messed around here.  Meanwhile it got chillier!

This evening we all went to the Post Corner for pizza.  Tomorrow is the last day here for Linda and Kaylee.  It's been fun having them here.  I will miss them when they leave.

Wednesday

Went to coffee this morning and sat with the family.  When it came time to Share the Wealth, Kaylee pulled my ticket out of the bucket - yay!!  I won $21.50 - that makes up for my only winning $2.25 last night!

Dave went to "Friends of Galveston" in Sebring today.  I stayed here.  Since there was so much dew, we didn't get to shuffle.  So I worked on my messed up Quicken account today all day!

B & B

We all went bowling this morning.  I fixed it to where all of our family got to bowl together.  That was fun!  Bob bowled very well, but the rest of us not so much!  Then tonight at bingo, Kaylee was the big winner of the family, but we all won something.  I only won $2.25 and Ann only won $4.50 or something like that.  Kaylee, however, won $41.50 and Linda won $20+.

Nothing more for today!

Super Monday

Today was another beautiful day in the neighborhood!  We worked around here - I worked on book work and Dave worked to repair a chair that he broke!  He finally found a replacement at the HFH Re-Store.

Tonight we played cards up at the clubhouse.  We played a game the Canadians call Jack's Game, but it's very similar to Court Whist that we play at home.  There were 28 players so lots of fun!

Beautiful Sunday

Dave and I joined Anona Methodist Church this morning as Associate Members...basically we're snowbird members!  We went up to the front during church and took our membership vows.

Then this afternoon, Linda and Kaylee came to town.  We went to The Legion with Bob & Ann - fun times with family.  The place was absolutely crazy!  It was packed.  We had to wait for a table, and then we had to scrounge for chairs after we got a table!

It was so beautiful outside today that I'm glad we got to spend so much time outdoors!

Saturday

What a beautiful day we had today!  It was 75 and beautifully sunny!  We went to breakfast this morning up at the clubhouse, and then we took off looking for Roseate Spoonbills.  These birds are pretty elusive.  According to what I've read, they feed early in the morning and later in the evening - I guess I'll have to get up earlier!  We did see one today during our travels.  We ended up at Sawgrass Park - a beautiful area with lots of marshland.

The reflections in the water were fantastic!  There wasn't even a whiff of a breeze while we were there.  Besides the Spoonbill, we saw a Tricolor Heron, a Cattle Egret, and lots of Great White Egrets and Seagulls.  In our travels we ended up in St Petersburg at the Farmers' Market where we purchased some Dynasty Guacamole - the best guacamole in the world!  We also got some fabulous strawberries!  St Pete was a mess - there was some kind of Expo going on about 3 blocks from the Farmers' Market so traffic was horrendous!

We came back home and took a bike ride then I finished our newsletter and calendar!  It was a good day!  Tomorrow we become Associate Members of Anona Methodist Church and then my niece and great niece get here tomorrow afternoon!!

Cold Friday

It was cold here today - it was only 34 when I got up!  It did, however, warm up nicely if you stayed out of the wind.  We even sat out this afternoon for a while.

This was one of those lazy days.  Didn't do much - Dave ran some errands and I worked on books most all of the day.  I also got the March Newsletter started and almost 3/4 done!

Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer - thank goodness!  Maybe we can go see something!

Chilly Thursday

Dave took the SRX to the dealership today to get the driver's seat belt fixed.  It was in backwards.  I had tried to turn it, but couldn't and finally determined that they'd put it in backwards.  When Dave got there, the repair manager took a look at it, folded the belt and flipped the belt around - fixed and done!  Yay - so much better!

After I got my shower taken, we took off for Sarasota to see Roberta and Dave's sister Suzy & her husband, Greg.  We sat outside at Roberta's - we were out of the wind and the sun had heat in it.  It was beautiful.  Then we went up to the pool for lunch - we were able to find a table that was in the sun and out of the wind.  I even took off my jacket while we were sitting there.

Tonight we've just been hanging out - Dave watched a dumb movie and  I played games.  I sure wish it would get a bit warmer!  I guess we should expect this cold when it's freezing  up north, we're bound to get some of it.

Wednesday

It was supposed to be really cold today, but if the wind hadn't been blowing, it wouldn't have been bad at all.  I went up to coffee this morning and Dave went to the dentist to have his teeth cleaned.  When he got back, he went to Gary's to help Bob & Gary build a partial wall in their kitchen.  He was gone a long time.  I got 5 episodes of Downton Abbey watched while he was gone.  Now I can start on Season 2.  I wish I'd been watching this show all along - it's really, really good.

Tonight we went to church to Ash Wednesday services.  It was communion and a couple of songs, along with receiving the ashes.  Very somber and very moving.    Now I'm watching the Cyclone men play at Oklahoma State.

Tuesday!

I didn't bowl today - I was pretty sore still from yesterday so I stayed home.  I also have a huge bruise on the left side of my face - looks like Dave punched me!  The swelling is going down, but it's still there even tonight!  Dave bowled and he had a turkey!  (3 strikes in a row - way to go, Dave!)

This morning was beautiful - a little windy, but nice temperature at least.  This afternoon we were supposed to have a Mardi Gras bike parade, but it was pouring!  So we skipped it and just had dinner at 5:00.  Good food - jambalaya, beans & rice, Cajun cornbread, King cake, etc!  It was really good - I'm sure glad we have some leftovers!!  Eight of us played cards after dinner.  My partner and I came from behind and won!!  Yay!

I don't like going to dentists!

My appointment today was at 1:50 and I didn't get home until 5:50!!!!  He numbed both sides of my mouth because he was going to work on tooth 14 AND teeth 2,3,4,&5 today.  Well, we never did get to tooth 14. He ended up working just on the right side of my mouth and prepping me for a 4-tooth bridge.  At one time he said he was going to have to do a gingivectomy...I didn't like the sounds of that!  He had to cauterize the gum in order to get to the tooth surface...yuck!  Anyway, I've got a temporary on teeth 2-5 and don't go back until March 5th.  Unfortunately, the left side (where tooth 14 is) is the one that is bruised and really hurts!  My cheek is even black and blue!  I guess it'll go away, but probably not for a day or two!

This evening I've just vegged out.  I was able to eat some egg salad tonight.  I didn't feel like going to bingo tonight.  Hope I feel like bowling tomorrow!

BEAUTIFUL DAY!

Wow - today was sure nicer than the forecast said!  It was in the 70's and sunny!  We had our door open all day, letting in the beautiful air!

We went to church this morning.  It was nice having Barb & Gary there, too.  Next week, we join the church as associate members, which means we have a home church but this is our second church home.  Good sermon today!

Dave helped Gary move a washer and dryer this afternoon, so we didn't even have lunch until 4;00.  This evening 4 of us - Ann, Lulu, Sandy and I played cards.  Ann & I won, but the game was close all the way through the 4 hands!

Happy V Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!  We had a really fun day!  We were going to Beall's this morning, but got a call from Sudi and ended up going to Tarpon Springs.  We met Sudi, Howard, Karen, Becky & Jim at Hellas Restaurant where we had wonderful Greek food.  It was a fun time with high school friends - great conversation, great food, and beautiful sunshine!  The cool weather certainly didn't stop the sightseers today - Tarpon Springs was packed!

The guys!

The gals!

We got back in time to watch most of the Iowa State game while the meatloaf was baking.  I took the meatloaf out of the oven just in time to go to the clubhouse for our V-Day party.  We honored our couples who had been married at least 50 years.  At the head of the table were Pat & Don who have been married for 65 years!

Fun times at The Ranch!

Adventure Day

Dave and I went on an adventure today!  We went looking for Roseate Spoonbills!   Even though it was chilly out, we stayed warm.  I actually only wore shorts and a sweatshirt and I was fine.  We went to Lake Maggiore and Boyd Hill Nature Preserve on the south side of St Petersburg.  It was a great day for walking the trails.  We probably walked 3 miles, maybe a little more.  We saw lots of birds and beautiful water scenes - but no Roseate Spoonbills!

When we left there, we went toward Fort Desoto, still looking for Roseate Spoonbills.  On the way there,, we saw one in a small waterway along a golf course...so we did a flip and got some pictures!  Yay!  I can add a few more birds to my personal bird book, now!

After taking pictures of this beauty, we headed to Pass-a-Grille for lunch.  We ate at the Brass Monkey and enjoyed watching the Gulf through the window - it was much too windy and cold to eat outside!  The water was sure pretty today - very blue!

Fun adventure and one we'll do again!

Thursday

Since I lost my crown yesterday, I went to the dentist this morning.  He took 18 xrays of my teeth and then the exam happened...and the bad news started!  I have some major work needed...I start Monday!  I need a couple of crowns and an extraction.  Unfortunately, my dentist at home told me I'd need this work, but there wasn't a big hurry.  Now, there is a hurry.  I did, however, get my crown seated again and it should be okay.

While we were out, we went to Beall's Outlet and Walmart.  Then we came home and had egg salad sandwiches for lunch.

This evening we're watching Snow White and the Huntsmen on TV.  This queen is wicked!

Beautiful Day

The weather surprised us today - it turned out to be a beautiful day!  We had coffee this morning, followed by our monthly HOA meeting.  Then we shuffled.  We played 3 games - 1 this morning and 2 this afternoon.  I won 1 and lost 2.  Dave also won 1 and lost 2.  It was a great day to play!

Just before my 3rd game, I got a piece of candy from Bobbi and one of my crowns came off.  So after we played the 3rd game, I came home and made an appointment with a dentist.  I needed one down here anyway, so now I've got one, I guess.

Cards tonight were horrible.  Sandy & Pat clobbered Doreen and me.  We only lost by 12,000!!

Tuesday

It's getting chilly today and especially tonight.  If the forecast for the next week is true, I may have to find my long pants!

We bowled this morning - only 18 of us today.  We had fun though.  I bowled decently after a slow start.  There were 3 young men and an older man next to us - boy, could they bowl!  One kid had 5 strikes in a row and ended up with a 238!  Fun to watch!

Bingo was the same as usual.  I didn't win, but was waiting a bunch!

Great day...

...for ducks!  It was nice until about 11:30 or so and then the sky started leaking!  We had over an inch of rain today...a nice steady rain with a few rumbles of thunder.  It would have been great if I could have taken a nap, but I worked on paperwork and then I had a "spa" day.  I had a pedicure, a manicure, and an eyebrow waxing!  I feel like a girl again!!  The gal who did my pedi, took forever!  It took an hour just to do my pedicure!  My brows and fingers only took 30 minutes.  If I could understand Vietnamese, I'm sure she was getting told that she needed to get a move on!  Regardless, it cut into my nap time, so I didn't get one!

We had picked up a soup mix at The Dutchman Store and we fixed it tonight.  I browned a pound of hamburger, added 7.5 cups of water and the mix.  It was delicious!  It was called American Cheeseburger soup!  It was either that or we were going to make chili, but I didn't want chili today!

The rain stopped at 6:10 or so, just in time for me to go to play cards.  I lost again tonight.  I had good cards, but our opponents got better cards.  Our friend and fellow card player, Maryetta, has heart surgery in the morning.  Please say a prayer for her!

Gorgeous Day

Today was almost perfect - temperature was 76-78 with no humidity and plentiful sunshine!  A great day to worship the Lord!  We went to the 9:30 church service - took Della and her new neighbor, Pat.  Today's sermon was about Ruth & Boaz - very fitting for Dave and I.  It was about accepting people (in-laws) who are different from us.  Last week the sermon was about accepting those who are different out in the world - race, religion, sexual preference, etc.  This week it was closer to home - in fact in our families.  Good message!

We ate our lunch out in the lanai and then we both took short naps.  We had massages at 3:30 so we couldn't really do much or go anywhere.  Our massages were both wonderful and now we're both about asleep in our chairs!  Bed soon!

Hopefully tomorrow is another nice day!

Beautiful Day

This was a gorgeous day for anything you wanted to do!  We first went up to the Chinese Auction, and then we went to the Wagon Wheel flea market.  Dave wanted some shorts and they're only $7 a pair there.

Our Chinese Auction was another success.  We had tons of stuff to sell and many people got lots of bargains!  I'll be anxious to see how much we took in!

I read for a while this afternoon and since I didn't want to take a nap, I went for a bike ride instead.  At the end of my ride, I stopped to visit with my brother.

Fun day

Yesterday, Dave's sister and brother-in-law came in to stay the night with us.  So we took them to JD's for dinner after we ran some errands for them.  Suzy wanted to go to Best Buy and to a CVS, so we drove down Gulf to Bay and then down Gulf Blvd past Ryan Howard's  house to JD's.  After3 rounds of drinks and a wonderful dinner, we came home, gabbed some more and went to bed!  This morning we saw them off early and then Dave helped get things ready for the Chinese auction tomorrow.

When he got home, we took off on an adventure.  He had wanted to go see the manatees, so we went there.  I think there were less than 100 in the warm waters, but more were coming in all the time.  The water temp in the Gulf is down to 62 and they need 65 or higher temps.  The water at the power plant was about 76 so they were coming in to get warm.  There were several mamas and babies today and the water was clearer so they were easier to see today.

After we got home, I took a nap and then it was time for supper and cards!   Dave has this movie on where every other word is the F-word - didn't take a lot of imagination to write this script!

Beautiful day

It was a beautiful day for shuffling today!  We played 4 games after coffee this morning.  I only played 3 games - one of them as a blue bird (I'm a red bird!)  I won both of my red bird matches, but couldn't hit the broad side of a barn when I was a blue bird!  Red birds went ahead today!!

This evening at cards wasn't any fun at all.  My partner and I couldn't get our 7s in the first hand.  In the second hand, we couldn't get both of our black canastas.  Then in the 3rd hand, we only had 1 canasta, so by the end of 3 hands we were behind by over 12,000 point.  I called the game and we conceded!  We still played the 4th hand just for fun, but we didn't fare any better in it!  We just couldn't get the cards and our opponents got wonderful cards!  Oh well, Friday is another night!

B & B

We've sure been having nice days - a little chilly in the mornings, but warming up nicely by noon.  We, unfortunately, haven't been having the 80 degree days we did a couple of years ago, though.  As long as we can wear shorts, all is well with the world!

Woke up this morning to no electricity.  The big electrical box out behind the mobile flipped off for some reason.  Bob came over and looked in there, saw it was off, and flipped it back on...electricity going again!  Thanks, Bob!

Bowling was pretty good.  I had a 124, a 152, and a 147.  Lunch was at PJ's - there were 28 of us there!  Bowling tonight wasn't any good.  I did get to say bingo, but I split with 4 others so only won $2.50!

Ooops again!

Last night, we went to the Super Bowl party at the clubhouse and when I got home, I totally forgot to blog!  I was disappointed that the Seahawks lost the way they did.  I would rather have had #24 get the ball and not make the TD than for them to try a pass at that point.  I know they did it because they figured NE was expecting the ball to go to #24 and they thought the pass would surprise them, but it didn't work.  Oh well...the sun will come out tomorrow!

We went to Sarasota today to see Roberta.  I came home and took a short nap before I went up to play cards.  Now we're watching the Cyclones play Kansas.  Unfortunately KU went ahead just a bit before halftime.  Hope my Cyclones come out shooting the lights out!
