Yesterday was cloudy, cool, and rainy. Today was the opposite - sunny, breezy, and just beautiful. We could have seen the eclipse if we'd had this weather yesterday. We ate our lunch out on the balcony and I even sat out there and read this afternoon.
We've got a couple of hummers flitting about, eating the food we've put out for them. While I was reading outside, one of them came to eat. After a few sips, she saw me and flew up into the tree. I was going in to get the camera, but I figured she wouldn't stay on the branch. Boy was I wrong. After about 20 minutes, she did a recon flight and saw me still there, so up to the branch she went. I'll bet she was there another 20 minutes. I finally came in so she would feel comfortable eating. I heard her little chirps within just a few minutes of my coming inside. The little male didn't show his face while I was out there today.
We got a video from Bryan of Aidan saying both Grandpa Dave and Grandma Peg!!
We've been waiting for the total eclipse forever, it seems. We here in Waterloo are now hoping that the one in 2024 will be able to be seen! It was very cloudy here today, so no eclipse. It did get a bit darker, but that's all we saw. Darn!
Here's a picture of Blaise and I reading about dinosaurs! I wish Dave had come in a little closer, so my legs weren't the first thing you see!
It was good to be back in our own church this morning. Good sermon, too. I thought the scripture was very appropriate for the world today. It is from Acts 2.
Acts 2:37-4237When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" 38Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off-for all whom the LORD our God will call." 40With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation."41Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. 42They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
It just spoke to me. I feel like if we remember our baptism, and listen to what God has to say, we can forget this mess the US is in and be able to relax knowing our futures.
We wanted to go to Morgs for breakfast after church, but it was full. So we went to Village Inn and it was PACKED! So we came home to eat. Dave went to Bryan's for the afternoon and I did the Sept newsletter and calendar. Yay! I also got to watch the Cubs win in extra innings!!
I don't remember what happened yesterday...oh yeah, I fixed the pillowcase for Dave's wedge pillow for one thing. Dave mowed here at the condo while I was doing whatever I was doing. Then about 4:30 we went to Linda's. Bob & Ann were there for the weekend so I sat and talked to my brother for quite a while. Then Kyle, Cassie, and Blaise arrived! He was being bashful with us. That was a first. It didn't last long though, because we had a bite of supper and I sat at his little table with him. When we got done eating, he wanted me to read to him. We read 3 and a half books before it was time to go to the party. He didn't want to go but I left the book and he got ready. The party was a get together for Clayton & Kaylee. Clayton will be leaving in a couple of weeks for The Netherlands where he'll play basketball for Leiden this year. Kaylee won't be going until October sometime because she's the maid of honor in a wedding. So she and the dog will join him after his season starts.
It was a great party - tons of food, perfect weather, and Clayton's band. Good music, guys!!
Today we did some things to the camper and then we installed our EasyView TV. We did something wrong, though, so we have to wait for tech support to call us back on Monday. We also covered my recliner - so no more pinkish raspberry in our living room!! Yay!
We made it home, safe and sound - thank you, God! We had a very good time on our little trip. On Saturday night we went to a party for our O-town pastor, David, and his wife, Liz. It was a great group of hand-selected people who have been friends with David & Liz for the past 7 years. It coincided with David's retirement and his 70th birthday, as well as their pending move to Wisconsin to begin their retirement life. Fun times and lots of laughs!
Sunday we went to church with our old friends and then lunch with a group of 10. Then Monday we went to Cantril to get our 25 pounds of popcorn for Florida, plus a list of stuff from Ann. We met Bob & Ann for lunch at the Recovery Room. Bob has now had 13 radiation treatments out of 35. He says they drive for 3 hours (both ways) for 3 minutes of treatment. Say a few prayers for my brother!
After lunch we took off for Cherry Glen campground at Saylorville. We couldn't get in at Adventureland. Cherry Glen is beautiful and quiet!! Unfortunately they didn't have any WIFI at all. We checked our phones by using data, but didn't use them for anything else. We did, however, have decent tv viewing for the evenings when we returned from the Fair. Again, the Iowa State Fair was wonderful. We were there two partial days and saw lots. This is the first time we didn't eat a bunch of junk! We had a great time!
We're heading out again tomorrow morning. This time, we're heading to O-town until Monday afternoon. Then we'll be going to Des Moines for the best state fair ever! We plan to be back in the 'loo on Thursday afternoon. So today was spent packing the camper!
We plan to take off early in the morning so we can have a Canteen for lunch! We've got a get-together tomorrow night with friends, then church on Sunday. Monday morning we're heading to Cantril to get stuff for Florida. Monday afternoon we get to see Bob & Ann and then off to Des Moines. Tuesday and Wednesday are fair days and back here on Thursday. Are you tired yet???
I had a really good day today. My back feels pretty good today! I had a pedicure this afternoon and ran the massage chair 2 times - that was wonderful! Plus my toes look pretty cool if I do say so myself! After that I ran to Bed Bath & Beyond and bought a slip cover for my sofa, and some pretty pillows too. I've been so tired of the raspberry colored couch and recliner! Now it looks new!
We had a fun day today - separately though! Dave went to Bryan's this morning and did some big mowing, while I ran some errands. I needed to get my hair cut and my brows done. Then I ran to the dry cleaners. My next stop was at the Library to get a library card. That was a simple and painless procedure. I also was able to get some instruction on how to load ebooks onto my Kindle (which are FREE!!!) and even got my first ebook downloaded! Yay!!
I was going to get a pedicure too, but I ran out of time. So that has to wait until tomorrow or after we get back from our next adventure!
We made it to Indiana and back safely...thank you, Lord. Friday night we went to see Don since he'd just gotten out of the hospital that afternoon. He was glad to see us, but you could tell he was in pain. We saw him several more times over the weekend, and he said he's feeling better each day. After we saw him for a short visit on Friday night, Suzy, Greg, Roberta, Dave and I went to a late dinner at Old Style. Then back to Roberta's for strawberry shortcake. I'm still stuffed!
Roberta's bed doesn't like me, so I had a really hard time sleeping both Fri & Sat nights. Saturday, we met a couple of ladies that Dave had gone to school with for lunch. Then we all took naps in the afternoon - after visiting with Don.
Sunday we went to church with Bev, then went to Dave's reunion of students who had gone to Deacon elementary together. There were 18 out of 27 students in attendance. They had a lot of fun reminiscing and getting caught up on each other's lives.
We got up early this morning, so got to Waterloo by 3:00. Stopped on the way home at Carlos O'Kelley's for Mexican food. After unloading the car, Dave went to Bryan's and I took a nap until it was time for my massage. That felt really good! We're both really glad to be home!
We're packing because we're heading to Indiana in the morning. We'll be gone for a couple of days...just going to two class reunion type of events for Dave. I may not even take my computer. I can survive with just my phone!
Oh, I finished 70 Christmas cards today. They are in a bag, in a box that will go to Florida with us!! Yay!
I am so confused...I've got to get to church! If I don't go to church, I lose track of what day it is. We haven't been there for a month. We won't make it this Sunday either. We're heading for Indiana for a reunion of Dave's classmates from this one little town where they went to elementary school.
I worked on Christmas cards while Dave went to Bryan's. He came home so excited. Aidan gave him a bye-bye kiss. That's the first time! He usually gives me one, but not Dave. We were able to get in to see the chiropractor late this afternoon, too.
It was a month ago when I fell at church...July 2nd. I finally was able to sleep all night in the bed. I still can't sleep on my side the way I like to sleep. So I'm still not happy with it. When I sleep the way I like to sleep, I'm sort of twisted to my front...I'm not on my right hip at all. That puts pressure on my ribcage and that still hurts. I'm getting closer though!
Today I worked on Christmas cards again. Now I'm assembling them and then the last step will be to stamp the sentiment on the inside. I bought a new product which will be very helpful with that. It's called MISTI and it'll take my shakes out of the equation!!
Here are a couple of pix from the weekend. The first is Bryan, Erin, and Aidan in the water park.
Storm Lake is full of these carvings. When a tree dies or blows down, a local artist carves them into various animals, people, etc. Here are a couple of them from the park.
We had a beautiful day here. Dave had to fix the water hose connection on the camper and he ran some errands. I didn't do anything except mess with my computer. I was without wifi all weekend, so I needed to catch up!
I also worked on uploading pictures from the weekend.
We took off Friday morning for Storm Lake for a camping trip with Bryan and his family. Erin's folks were there Friday afternoon until Saturday morning. We had a wonderful time. We saw some beautiful sights and had a lot of fun with Aidan! We took my mobility scooter and Aidan remembered riding it in Florida, so he and I covered lots of miles riding and talking. Yes, he's started talking, but he still doesn't talk a lot...and he won't say grandma! I told him I should have called myself Mimi Peg and he said, "Mimi". Little squirt!
Storm Lake is very dry, but they water their flowers at their hotel/resort right on the lake. They are beautiful!
This was a boring day. I felt pretty good though. I fell asleep around 2:30 and woke up about 6:00 so I hope I sleep tonight! Dave worked on Bryan's pulling vehicle today because we're all camping this weekend. Can't wait to see their new pop-up camper!
We didn't go to church again this morning. I hurt bad enough that we didn't go. I also knew that we were going to Bryan's tonight and that we had to make aw potato dish to take and I figured I'd wear out. I love to go to church, so that bothered me a lot.
Tonight at Bryan's., we had a wonderful dinner - pulled pork, green beans, potato casserole, and black raspberry pie w/ice cream. Delicious.
We didn't have anything we had to do today, except get some groceries and a haircut for Dave. Mostly we watched Chicago sports...the Cubs come from behind victory and a Sox loss. I even finished a book so tonight I'll have to start another one.
We had a lot of rain again last night. Bryan said he had about 1.5" but up where Kyle lives they had about 7". Kyle and Cassie are flooded in - all the road around their place are flooded. Wish we could send some of this rain down to SE Iowa. They're in a bad drought.
I had a bit of a lazy day. I didn't even get out of my jammies until 2:00. I knew I had to get ready to go to Gilbert, so I just waited for the clock to say it was time to get moving! Dave was at Bryan's so I didn't worry about him being here! Fun day!
The ride to and from Gilbert was pretty good, but the party was better! There were 9-10 of us ladies and about 8 men. Lots of reminiscing about sorority over the years. I joined in 1974 when our chapter was formed and the rest of the ladies were at least a year later. Fun!!
Tomorrow we're going to Gilbert for a reunion of sorts for my Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Diane and her hubby are back in town too, so they're having a get together with us as special guests. The reason I start with this statement is that today I took a test run. Dave and I went out for drunch or linner. (That's dinner/lunch, so mid-afternoon.) I felt every bump,,,I'm not better yet, believe me! It was nice being out, but I hurt pretty bad yet. Wish me luck.
I had a pretty good day today. Dave went out to Bryan's to do some weed whacking. I stayed here and worked on the August newsletter. I've got it done except for one paragraph and I'm waiting to receive that info.
This evening I listened to the FHS Softball game vs Charles City (State Tourney). Unfortunately FHS lost 5-4, but tomorrow they'll play again. I think Allison will pitch tomorrow.
We had a couple of quiet days around here. It's very hot and humid, so we've not had the doors/windows open. We did eat a meal out on the balcony today. Dave went out to Bryan's yesterday and Bryan came here today. We wanted him to hook up our DVR so we could watch movies.
I got nothing today. I went back on my meds last night...slept like a baby. Actually I slept a lot of today. Dave says that means I'm healing. He went out to Bryan's to mow today while I stayed here. At least it was nice enough to have the patio doors open.
I felt pretty good this morning, even though I had only a few hours of sleep. I've been walking around without the walker and doing some mild things around the house. By afternoon, I started getting sorer and sorer...grrr. Then Bryan brought Aidan to see us and I did a bunch of ups and downs in and out of the chair. I just took a pain pill and a muscle spasm pill. I really hurt tonight.
When I got up this morning, I decided I was getting off both of my meds. I like to nap, but not as much as I was doing. So besides not taking any meds, I also didn't get a nap. I know you're getting tired of hearing about my aches and pains, but when you're laid up with an injury, there's nothing much to talk about.
Although I hurt quite a bit today, I did make progress. I am getting in and out of my chairs and doing everything by myself. I even got into bed last night. Unfortunately it wasn't the experience I wanted, so about 3:30 I came back to my chair. It's pretty bad when you have a Tempurpedic bed and you like the chair better! As soon as I can sleep on my right side, then I'll love my bed again.
We didn't go to church this morning because I can't sit up straight for more than 10 minutes or so. I don't think it would have been appreciated if I just stretched out on the pew!
Anyway, I've had a pretty good day. Dave actually went out to Bryan's for a couple of hours and I was able to get out of my chair by myself! It's much easier getting into the chair than out of it!! About 5:00 when Dave got home, I told him I wanted to try to get into the bed...and I did! He had to help me out of the bed, but I think we're going to sleep back there tonight!
I felt quiet a bit better today!! Yay! I can finally reach down for the handle on my recliner without screaming. My being able to get in and out of my chair is huge for Dave. He now doesn't feel like he's trapped here. He an go and just check in on me.
Craig & Sue called earlier today. They were going for a drive in one of the old cars and decided to come see us. That was really fun - we miss our times with them! Shortly after they left, the electricity went off in our neighborhood. 1300 residences without power. They got it up and running in about 45 minutes.
It was a little better for me today. I am still not able to get into bed or work the lever on my recliner, but I was able to shower (with a little help from Dave), get dressed, and walk the hallways 2 times. Dave has all control!
Today was another bad day! I hurt pretty bad. I've got a doctor's appointment Friday so maybe she can see the swelling in my upper right hip. That's about 3" below my bruise in this picture or up from the x..
I've borrowed a walker with wheels and that's how I'm getting around, I'm unable to get into bed, though, so it's another night in the recliner!
Unfortunately we didn't do anything. I felt so much worse today. I'm hoping that tomorrow is better. Dave says he's taking me to our doctor. I've got a spot about 6" down from where I hit that's like someone is ripping my muscle, putting a hot iron to it, or poking it with an ice pick. That's the worst pain - I'm thinking I tore a muscle. If so it's no wonder the meds aren't seeming to work.
Yes, I am. I missed the last step today and fell at church. I hit the front edge of the pew with my right-side back. My back went into awful spasms immediately and I couldn't move. I went by ambulance to Covenant where I waited for almost an hour to see a doctor. A morphine shot and x-rays followed and then more waiting to have them read. Bottom line is I didn't break anything but I have an awfully large contusion in the shape of the pew front on my back and I'm on pain pills and muscle relaxers...neither of which is working tonight so far. I've got a walker that I use, but Dave stays right with me.
I did something today that I've not done for years. I slept the clock around!! I haven't been sleeping very well, so last night Dave convinced me to take a couple of Advil PMs. They didn't seem to be working...so I read until 11:45. The next thing I know Dave is waking me up at 9:50. I told him I was going to sleep a bit longer...so he woke me at 11:45. Again I told him I wanted to sleep a bit longer, but I was too far awake at that point. So I got up with a good 12 hours of sleep! I wasn't tired all day like I have been. I wonder if I'll sleep tonight.
Dave left for Bryan's as soon as I got up. They took two little foster boys last night, so he really needed help today. I sat out on the balcony, then came in to watch the Cubs lose...again. Grrr....
It was a pretty day here. Dave went to Bryan's and worked on cleaning up downed limbs from the storms last night...when you live in a forest it's a never-ending job. I worked on Christmas cards. I was able to listen to Pandora on my computer, so that was nice. I had music I liked all day!
Now I'm watching the Cubs get beat...again. Darn them any way. Dave said watching last year was more fun!
I did some stamping today. My fingers look like I've been working with blackberries - stained that color! I've washed them about 10 times since I finished and they are starting to look better! I'm also done with that color for a while! I'm working on Christmas cards. Can you believe it?
Tonight I watched the Cubs get beat again, while also watching the radar. Big storms in the area but mostly missed us. We got some rain, but not the hail and 70 mph winds they were predicting. We had the most gorgeous double rainbow!
Beautiful day here today! We got our house mostly cleaned today before we went shopping. We went to the bank, to Sam's Club for gas, then into Sam's Club to return some mugs we bought that didn't keep drinks cold for even 4 hours - they said they would keep them cold for 24 hours. No questions asked even though we didn't have our receipt. Our membership card tracks all purchases. Then we were off to Walmart and to Fareway. Brought the groceries home - all before our chiropractor appointment at 2:00! Whew!
Now we're watching the Cubs...another nail biter. We're ahead 5-3 in the 9th - 2 outs, runners at 1st and 2nd and Bryce Harper up to bat. OMGosh! Nervous!! Now bases are loaded. Come on Cubs! Wild pitch - now 5-4, runners on 2nd & 3rd. Whew! Cubs win!!
It is so cold here today! The high was only 67 and the wind was blowing pretty hard, so it didn't begin to feel like 67! We went to church and then to Newton's for breakfast and Dave had to go to the car to get our jackets...only 4 people were brave enough to eat outside...and we weren't two of them!
Dave went to be with Bryan today and I stayed here, under a blanket!!
We got a little more sun today!! We had a ball game at 10:45 and then another at 4:00 today, so we got plenty of sun! The Trojans won their first game, but lost the 2nd game 1-0. It was quite a pitcher's dual. Tied at the end of regulation and the other team won in the 2nd OT inning. Allison pitched the first game. We got behind early on a couple of errors, but came back and won 11-4!
Fun day in the sun in Iowa City. Allison pitched the first game, which we won in 3 innings 12-0. She had a couple of good hits, too. That was against Tipton. Then the second game was against Woodward=Granger and we won it 24-4 in 5 innings! Allison as the DH in it and again had a couple of really good hits!
Rain again off and on today. Sure looks like rain again tonight. It's 82 at 8:00 - and very sticky! Today I tried to do some stamping, but I think it's safe to say that I got more ink on my hands than I did on the paper! Unfortunately it's Blackberry Bliss ink, so it's very noticeable. I'm going to try again, but if it doesn't go better, I'm afraid I'll be getting rid of a bunch of Stampin' Up stuff. :(
Dave went to Bryan's again. He's having fun out there. This evening we went to Waverly to the Pour House to listen to the Vette Band. Clayton, his brother Ryan, and his dad Brett played at the Butler Co. Fair today and then they had a 2 hour gig tonight. They're really pretty darn good! Clayton has a very good voice for country music.
We had a wet day today. The day started out rainy and ended up rainy, but in between it was lovely! Dave went out to the farm to work on Bryan's workshop and he took a bunch of wood to Waverly for Linda and Al's fire pit. I, meanwhile, was on chat for 3 hours trying to get our printer working with my laptop. After 3 hours and 3 technicians, it finally works! I guess it just took a woman tech to get it done right!
Tonight we had salads for supper, along with ice cream and the rest of our raspberries. Guess we'll have to pick some more this weekend!
I had a very frustrating day! For some reason my printer isn't working and I've tried to reload it 3 times...failed 3x! Tomorrow I will call HP and see if they can help me re-install it. It's not even showing up on my computer. It was working, but just this week the electricity has gone out 2-3 times because of lightning...now it's MIA!
Dave went to the farm (Bryan's) and while he was there he picked some black raspberries. So tonight we had ice cream and berries. Yum!!
What a beautiful day we had here...70s and no humidity...AND sunshine! Dave went out to Bryan's and loaded some wood to take to Linda and Al for their fire ring. We'll deliver it there probably Weds. Then Thursday night we're going to Waverly to listen to Clayton, his brother, and his dad play at a bar there. Should be fun. Clayton is the main singer and he's pretty good. Maybe we'll even get to see Blaise!
I had a pedicure today and a massage! Fun day for me. Aidan went to "school" today. This was his first day at day care. Hope he got along okay!
After a light breakfast and getting ready, we went to church where we had another good sermon. This one was from our Assoc. Pastor. She started a 5 week series from the Psalms today.
We then went to lunch at the Screaming Eagle. It was good, but I really wanted bacon and eggs and they don't serve breakfast. This afternoon was for resting (and napping in Dave's case), and watching the Cubs.
Tonight he started watching some weird, science fiction movie and I zoned out on my computer...wasn't for me!
Today we went to The Wild Carrot for lunch. It was especially nice because Kaylee was our server and Linda (her mom) came to have lunch with us! We sat and gabbed for a long time. It was great to see Kaylee cause we hadn't seen her since last August! We were hoping that Blaise would be with Linda, but he was at his other grandma's today.
Now it's really Friday! Tomorrow Bryan leaves for Germany for a week. Ann's in Africa. What are we doing? Nothing!!
I did get my hair cut this afternoon and tried to get a pedicure, but the wait was a bit longer than I wanted. Dave and I went out to Carlos O'Kelly's this evening. Then we watched the Cubs game and now it's lightning again. I know we needed rain, but I'm ready for a sunshine kind of day!
Nope...wrong again. It's only Thursday. I've made this mistake numerous times today!! I guess I'm a slow learner!
We had another hot, humid day...90 again, but felt hotter. Tonight we had rain, lightning, thunder, and even hail. We were at Bryan's for supper and drove home in rain, but at least the hail was done. The sky was so pretty, but very ominous looking.
This was a Wild Weather Day! When I got up I noticed that it had rained. Then mid morning, it poured...then it hailed...then more heavy rain! Finally this afternoon, we even had some sunshine. All of this with 88 degrees!
Dave worked at Bryan's most of the day. I dusted and vacuumed! Then this evening we had our annual meeting downstairs.
I caught up on some much needed sleep today. Unfortunately I've been awaking around 6:15 AM and that's just not acceptable! I finally got up about 7:15, but I took an hour nap this afternoon! Dave escaped to Bryan's for a few hours - that is his relaxation!
Tonight I went to a PEO meeting. I enjoyed it very much. The ladies all seemed nice, so I've decided to transfer to this chapter.
Dave drove 425 miles today, pulling the camper. The funny thing was, when we got home, he got in the SRX and drove to the grocery store too. I guess he wasn't tired of driving!! We made it home in 8.5 hours today. It took us 9 hours to get there, but 30 minutes less to get home! Lots of traffic on I80 - the Hot Rod Power Tour was driving from Newton to Davenport so we met LOTS of cool old cars!! Unfortunately, I think every 18 wheeler in America was on the road today too. So it wasn't a stress-free drive!
Thank you, Lord, for getting us home safely. The laundry is done and the sheets and towels are folded and ready to go back to the camper for the next trip!
Today was a long day with a lot of family!! We celebrated 99 years of life for my father-in-law's only living sister, Dave's Aunt Charlotte. There were about 45 of us and everyone had a great time, visiting and eating, and looking at pictures of past get-togethers. After the late lunch in Lafayette, we all came back to the campgrounds and gathered again for pizza and more visiting. I've got a ton of pictures to go through before I can put them on FB for the family to see. Hopefully I'll get that done tomorrow.
It was another hot day in Indiana and more cousins arrived. Now there were 14 of us here at the park. So 7 cousins and 7 spouses. I think I heard that 12 of 17 cousins are to be here tomorrow for Aunt Charlotte's 99th birthday party!!
It poured tonight so we elected to stay in our camper instead of underneath a canopy. We're much warmer and dryer!!
Enjoyed another beautiful Indiana day today! We cooked lunch on the grill - we were by ourselves for lunch today. Then we headed for Logansport to help the rest of the family power wash the outside of Roberta's house. After the guys got done power washing a side, then the ladies washed the windows. We made a pretty good team! Then supper for 9 around a small table! Fun family times!
Now we're home in our camper and getting ready for bed. Tomorrow's another busy day!
We're having a great time in Indiana. The time here has me all mixed up, though. It's an hour ahead of us in Iowa...just like Eastern time. So at 9:00 it's still daylight!! It's a bit easier to sleep in though!
On Monday when we got here, there was only time to eat our pizza and hang out by the river for a short time before retiring for the night. Yesterday we had to pick up some groceries and then we went to Pat & Milt's for supper. Yum! Today Dave went in to Don & Bev's for a couple of hours. When he got home, he took a nap and then we had to make sandwiches because Don, Bev, Nancy, Charlie, and we were going fishing. What a beautiful place! It's a private quarry that 4 young guys bought for half a million dollars and it is a beauty. The water is very clear and blue! Everyone fished but me - I sat in the sun and read a book! Every once in a while, I'd just stop and admire the scenery. It was 10 before we got home!
Tomorrow Don & Bev, Suzy & Greg, Pat & Milt and Dave & I are going to Roberta's in the afternoon to wash the outside of her house (the guys). We ladies will then wash the outside of her windows. She's fixing dinner for us all, so that'll be fun.
We left at 9 this morning and made it here at 6 this evening - 9 hours of bumpy highway, lots of highway construction, and wind! It really wasn't horrible, it's just that I don't drive the truck with the camper, so I get really, really bored!
We made it safely though, even stopped long enough to pick up a pizza in Logansport...yay for cell phones!! Good pizza...lots like the old George's...good and greasy!!
Another hot day here - over 90 again. It wasn't so humid today at least! We went to church and then out to lunch at Village Inn. We had a $10 gift card and our bill came to $10.19...we weren't even trying! Then we had some shopping to do, so we headed to Walmart and got all that done.
This afternoon we got things ready for the camper. Dave took all of that outside. Now we don't have much left to load. Just the last minute things. We will take off for Indiana by mid morning. Tonight we went to Bryan's for a cookout. Aidan was going 100 miles an hour! He's starting to say some words finally. His latest is pizza!!
We got home in time to see the Cubs sweep the Cardinals!
I've decided that Dave is a slave driver and I'm the slave he's driving! This morning when I got up, he'd cleaned out another closet of totes and had them on the couch and the chairs in the living room. Guess who got to go through them and condense them down. More purging!!
Since I was on a roll, I thought I'd work some in my sewing area. I have two plastic sets of drawers under my design table. I should say, had two. I now have 1!! I was then able to get my doll buggy and doll cradle under the table where the one set of drawers vacated! Now I don't have to worry about getting rid of either the cradle or the buggy, at least for a while. They're hidden from sight!
After Dave and I ate lunch out on the balcony, he went to Bryan's for a work day! He loves that!! I worked on some more applique and watched the Cubs!
It was hot here today - got up to 92! In fact it's still 81 at 9:34 PM! Pretty hot for this early in June!
Dave decided to clean out our storage area down in the basement, so he brought stuff up here for me to help him. Among the stuff he brought up were about 35 trays of Aunt Helen's slides along with her old slide projector. He also brought my slide projector and 1 carousel of slides. My carousel was a slide presentation for the Lupus Foundation made many years ago. Aunt Helen's slides were all mixed up and dated back to 1958 or so. I went thru every slide by hand...the projector wouldn't work. I threw out all of them except about 75 slides of us way back when. I'm going to find someone to put them on a CD for me to save. My projector works fine, so we put all of the saved slides into my carousel and looked at them. What a riot! I sure don't remember Aunt Helen being at our house for so many big events in my life! Anyway, that project is done and out of here! Yay!
Consequently, I didn't get much appliqueing done today. Maybe I'll get more done tomorrow.
Last night when I got ready to blog, Windows 10 was having issues and I couldn't get in. Thus, no blog.
We had a glorious day yesterday - 80s with a nice little breeze. We had the condo open and ate both lunch and dinner on the balcony! Finally about 9:00 we turned the air on so it wouldn't be so hot to sleep! I think today is supposed to be another beautiful day!
Today was a spectacular day! Dave and I ate out on the balcony and I had doors and windows open all day! Dave washed, waxed, and detailed the pickup and I did more appliqueing! Then I watched the Cubs lose...again! I think they're in their June Swoon in May. It's very frustrating.
I would say that I wasn't a slug today...I was more like a sloth! I actually did some sewing again. More appliqueing. This project will take many days of work! When my thread breaks or comes out of the needle, it takes a long time for me to re-thread the needle! You can imagine! I even had Dave thread it once today.
I had the patio doors open again today. It wasn't a very sunny day so unfortunately it didn't get above 70. Dave went out to Bryan's for several hours and then tonight he had a board meeting.
As far back as I can remember, my family went to the cemetery to decorate graves. It was a social time as many of our neighbors and friends were there too. We always had fresh flowers - peonies, irises, bridal wreath and Dad brought a ton of water along with a bunch of juice cans and wire to use as stakes so the cans of water/flowers wouldn't blow or tip over. I have very fond memories of this day.
As far as today goes, though, I was pretty much a slug! I put two pictures into frames and uploaded more pictures onto my computer. Plus I took a nap! Pretty much a slug!!
We had a fun 5 nights and 4 days in Ottumwa and Fairfield. We got to Ottumwa in time to eat supper with Bob, Ann, Gary, and Barb...at the Recovery Room for tenderloins! Thursday Dave went to a funeral in the morning, came and picked me up so we could have a Canteen for lunch and then we met Bob & Ann to go decorate graves in Batavia and Libertyville. Batavia was beautifully mowed, but no one mowed Fell. Except one of my cousins mowed around all of the Allison graves so that was nice. It still hadn't been mowed on Friday at 4:00! We then went to Fairfield for supper and a FHS Varsity softball game where Allison was the DH for both games! The Trojans won both games!Friday saw us going to Craig & Sue's for 2.5 hours and also getting our fix at Graham's. Then we headed to Fairfield to see if we could find FHS hats or sweatshirts...couldn't find a thing. At least we both have plenty of orange and black! Friday night was a JV doubleheader and they lost both games, but Allison hit the ball really well. Saturday we were back in O-town for a doubleheader. Allison played very well, but they only won the 2nd game. It was fun, though, because this time there were 3 cousins on the field...Cam Cooksey as an umpire, Allison, and McKenna Allison.
After the games, we took off for Cantril to do some shopping. It was PACKED to the gills with people! We didn't eat lunch, instead we waited until we returned to Ottumwa and had another Canteen and an ice cream cone at Graham's. Can't beat those 2 places!
Today we went to FPC (our old church) and enjoyed visiting with old friends and worshiping with them! We even went out to lunch with the "Bunch for Lunch" group. Then we packed up and headed home!!
At least it wasn't raining today - just cold and gray until afternoon late. I hope it warms up. We're going camping in O-town starting tomorrow until Sunday afternoon. I don't remember what kind of wifi we have down there, so in case we can't get wife this may be my last post for a while.
Dave worked on getting the camper ready while I worked here getting stuff out to pack. I also did laundry and put the desktop computer together and arranged most efficiently. I had to have Dave's help to hide the cords, though.
Tonight we watched the Cubs and Dancing With The Stars. Fun finale!! Good game too!
Dave worked on the camper and mowed Bryan's yard today. He was out there 9 hours. I had a good day. I had a massage...yay! That's always a highlight! Plus the sun was shining for several hours today. It was nice enough that I opened the patio doors and let God's air in! I also vacuumed and then I decided I was either going to stamp or sew. Sewing won today. I started machine appliqueing some little quilts I did a long time ago. That was fun for a change!
We had another cold, drizzly, rainy, gray day here. We aren't going to be back in the 70's until Tuesday or so. I'm not happy with this. So I've been looking at my pictures of the warmth and beauty of Florida. In fact I ordered 2 prints to hang up in our dining room today. Will be glad when they get here.
Holy Cow, it's cold here! It got all the way up to 45 today! It's actually 49 tonight. It was gray and rainy with that cold. I wore jeans and a coat today! Dave and I both had doctor's appointments today. I had an xray of my foot. I don't have a broken bone - just arthritis. I do, however, have a bone spur on my heel. Then my blood work was good too! Dave didn't have any blood work or anything, just a follow up!
For lunch we went to LJ's. I had a BLT and Dave had a Black n'Bleu burger. Declicious...and the best French fries ever! Then we picked up meds and groceries and finally got home. Silly Dave went back out to get a haircut and to pick up a new ice maker for the fridge. The new water valve didn't fix the leaking so now he'll install a new one.
Paul Bunyan (aka Dave) was at work this morning, cutting down the tree branch that was lodged on our balcony. I liked it there; it was like a privacy hedge. Unfortunately it had to go. He and our maintenance man got busy cleaning up. Dave has a chain saw instead of an axe, though! We were really lucky as the tree this branch came off of is about 40+ feet high. If the whole tree had toppled, it would have surely wiped out our balcony as well as those around us.
I cleaned out some more drawers today. I'm going to try to do some stamping tomorrow to see if my tremors are too bad. I hope not because I've got lots of $$ invested in this hobby!
My new computer arrived today. Desktop towers are so much smaller than they used to be! I'm excited to get that hooked up and those cords controlled again!
We got some big storms today. We've got a big tree outside our patio and a big branch came out of it, it the lady next door's windows, and ended up giving us a privacy shade! Unfortunately, it'll have to get cut up and taken out tomorrow. Marilyn (next door) has some shutter damage and one of her screens is torn. We lost our flag pole, but it got returned to us this evening. It poured with the wind! I usually sit here by the patio doors, but I decided I didn't like the way the wind was blowing, so I got up and moved away from the windows just as the tree came flying on our balcony! Whew!
I cleaned out some drawers today - threw away some makeup, etc. I feel good about my productivity. Plus, Dave took the ugly sconces off the walls in the dining room - yay!
Do you know what happens when you order a computer from Dell...from India? Well, I'll tell you. Even though we talked about the shipping address being Waterloo and that I haven't lived in Ottumwa for 2 years, guess where the computer went? Yep...to Ottumwa! So I call. Yesterday when I ordered the computer, the supervisor called me and checked on the shipping address. He asked if the shipping address was O'town and again I changed the address. But they still shipped it to the wrong place...grrrrr. I had one day shipping yesterday, but now it may be up to 8 days before I get it now...again, grrrr. Patience, grasshopper!
I've had kind of a slow day. It was hot and muggy here today, with a strong Easterly wind. The pollen was hard on me, so the door/windows stayed closed today with the a/c on! I started out by calling Dell about my desktop computer. For some reason we couldn't get it to boot when we got home. It still doesn't! Since it's Windows Vista and Windows no longer supports it, neither does Dell. Now I have to call the Geek Squad or someone to get everything off my hard drive. Then I'll ditch it. I've got a new tower coming soon.
After lunch we both took naps. That's it! Nothing exciting today!
Such a fun day! We went to church for a wonderful, uplifting sermon. Then we were going to go to Morg's for breakfast...closed for Mother's Day. So we chose to go toVillage Inn for lunch...big line! Newton's...big line! IHOP...huge line. Decided we'd try Carlos O'Kelley's...got there just before the big crowd came!!
This afternoon Dave took a nap while I put together a puzzle. Bryan and Erin invited us out for supper. So we got to spend the evening with Aidan!
Blaise, my great great nephew. He turns 3 tomorrow, but we celebrated today. He was so excited. When we got there, he told me it was his birthday and that he got presents and an ice cream cake. Then he took me around and showed me the dinosaurs that were hanging up. He told me what kind of dinosaurs they were - like a stegosaurus, a t-rex, etc. That kid knows one dinosaur from another one! We got him 3 dinosaurs and he loved them. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside and just enjoyed the weather, the company, and watching Blaise!
Since our camper was stored out at Kyle's, we picked it up today. Dave's going to work on it tomorrow...don't know for sure what he's doing.
We had a hummingbird visit this evening. I had the balcony doors open and he just hovered there, seeming to look in!
It was an absolutely gorgeous day today...about 78 with abundant sunshine. It was perfect sitting outside eating lunch. Too bad we don't have a hammock. It would have been nice to take a nap outside today - before the flies get back!
Dave worked at Bryan's today and I worked on covering a cushion today. One of our recliners is getting some age on it and I needed a cushion on the seat. It was either that or get a new recliner...the cushion was much cheaper.
I've started reading the Harry Potter series of books. Unfortunately now I want to see the movies. The wizardry is so fascinating that I want to see how they handled it in the films.
Another gorgeous day in the 'loo. We even got to eat outside again today. I had some shopping to do at Joann's so I went out on my own. While I was out, I got my hair cut too. I was starting to get a little shaggy.
Dave worked with some of the guys around here. They are installing LED lights in the hallways. Slowly!
Woke up today to fog and drizzle, which turned to rain later. It was, therefore, a lazy day! Really good day for a nap!
We went out to Lowe's to buy a new light for the kitchen. Got an LED light that makes the kitchen so much brighter. It has been really, really dark! Dave got it installed and now we can actually see in there.
We had another 75 degree day here. I had the patio door open this evening until about 8:00.
We went to Iowa City today for my annual appointment with my neurologist. All was well. He said I didn't have Parkinson's. Yay! We talked about medical marijuana. I still am on the fence with this form of medicine.
Dave went out to Bryan's this afternoon - he loves going out there.
I got a lot done today, and so did Dave. He did his shopping, including a new water valve for the ice maker. He then got the ice maker repaired and we've got ice!! Yay! The ice maker was broken all last year, so this will be nice. He got his last mess of mushrooms tonight, too!
As for me, I filed all the paperwork left over from Florida. I filed the duplicate check copies and cleaned up the desk. Then I vacuumed 2 rooms and moved furniture in the living room. When Dave came back, he helped me, but I'd already moved both chairs and a table all by myself!
We didn't get to eat outside today. It was very windy. We went out at noon, but it was sprinkling so we came back in. We probably only got 20 sprinkles all together but it was enough that we didn't want to eat outside.
It was gorgeous here today. At 6:30 tonight it was still 72 outside! We went to church this morning where we were treated to a wonderful sermon about God's acceptance of everyone! Also when we entered the church, there were quilts everywhere. The quilts were blessed today, before they are given away to those who need their comfort.
After church we went to Morg's Diner for breakfast/lunch. Wonderful place to eat. Someday I'm going to go there for lunch instead of just breakfast! Even the owner remembered us and told us we usually sit at the counter. We were lucky today. No waiting line and we got a booth!
This afternoon, I read and then took a nap while Dave worked on putting new lights on his truck. He had it torn apart yesterday and got it finished today. Then he was in a panic because he couldn't find his insurance card which came while we were in Florida. So I found it for him and put out that fire.
This evening we ate our supper, such as it was, outside because it was so nice! I fried a batch of mushrooms for Dave and I had a plate of tortilla chips and cheese. Now we're watching the Cubs get swept by the Yankees. The Yankees are really good this year, so far anyway!
We had another beautiful day here. It was a bit chillier than yesterday, but we were able to eat both lunch and supper out on the balcony. I hope this nice weather continues!
Dave had a fun day. He found 31 morel mushrooms - he was so happy. He came home and shared them with the upstairs neighbors and has enough for 2 more meals!
As for me, I puttered around here. I didn't do anything special - just worked on putting things away and looking for things. When you live in two different places, you can't remember where things are from one place to the next!!
We had a gorgeous day here. We even ate lunch out on the balcony!
After our 3 day excursion through wind and rain, we needed to relax! We went to Carlos O'Kelly's last night with Bryan, Erin, and Aidan. Aidan ate a whole child's pizza!! I couldn't believe it. He's still not talking, but he's going to be seeing a speech pathologist for an evaluation soon. Hope he/she is able to help A. He seemed really glad to see us!
Both Dave and I slept really, really well until I woke up at 2:00ish coughing...which woke Dave too. I took some cough syrup and slept in my chair until 6:15 when Dave got up. Then I went back to bed for a while. Today we went to the chiropractor so I'm hoping that will help get rid of my cough. Other than that, we worked on getting the stuff we brought back from Florida put away. We're about to get done!
Or about ready, anyway. I've still got to put out the dryer sheets and we've got the last load of clothes in the dryer...then we're ready. Oh, we've still got to pack the cooler. I sure wish I could blink us home like Jeannie did in "I Dream of Jeannie".
We were far enough along that we went to Sawgrass Lake Park this morning. One last time to see the baby anhingas and the baby alligators. The anhingas had really grown. Unfortunately I didn't get my memory card out of my camera before we packed it!
After a wonderful church service, we met Sudi and Howard at Europa for breakfast/brunch. It was good to see them again. We're going to miss them until we see them again in the fall. Good friends, good food, good visit!!
I cleaned house this afternoon. We washed sheets, etc. and I even got a bit of a nap. Dave's got the lanai furniture in the house and we put the insulated boards in the windows and all of the awnings but the front one down. It's really going to be good sleeping tonight - it'll be really dark in the bedroom. We're getting there!
Batten down the hatches - it was definitely windy today. It's probably a good thing it was windy, though, because it was a hot one! Dave took the car to Dimmitt Cadillac to have the oil changed and while he was there, they suggested we get new tires. We had planned to get tires when we get back to Iowa, but we decided that it was pretty silly to drive 1400 miles on tires that need replaced. So, he priced tires at Dimmitt and at Goodyear and Goodyear won out. Our SRX now has new "shoes"!
We went to Woody's for lunch. Pat & Milt are in Florida for a couple of weeks so we met them there. Other than it being very windy, it was a nice lunch. It's always good to see Dave's family. We'll see them again around the 10th of June...in Indiana.
Dave took the car to Dimmitt Cadillac to have the oil changed first thing this morning. Then since it's our last Friday here for the season, we decided to go to The Legion. It was a hot one there today. Thank goodness we were able to have the umbrellas up today. We sat with Bobbi, Alan, Chris and Wolfy. Sandy and Rich came a little later.
Dave had a doctor's appointment this morning. While he was gone, I went to the pool for the first time this season. I'm not much of a pool person, but I had the pool all to myself this morning! I thought the water was way too cold!
When Dave got home, we ran to Walmart for a couple of things and we picked up lunch at Subway. You see, old Mother Hubbard's cupboard is pretty bare! We've got some noodles, a can of chili beans, some canned chicken, and a can of green beans left...but we packed them yesterday. This weekend we're going to have to unpack them! All of the stuff in our freezer is gone except for some ice cream...so we've got dessert! Tonight we used our one large potato to make hash browns and we used our last eggs to make scrambled eggs for supper. That was good!
I had a pedicure today. I was past-due needing it. Something that makes me ponder is when I have my brows waxed, I always start coughing. What do you suppose causes that? Unfortunately tonight I'm still coughing and feel like my bronchitis is back. I just used my inhaler and I'm going to take some cough syrup before I go to bed. If I still feel like this in the morning, I'll go visit my doctor for some more antibiotics. Yuck!
Today is likely our last Wednesday morning coffee until this fall. :( It's sad, but we're ready to go back to Iowa for a few months. We need some Aidan/Bryan time.
Dave and I both had dental cleaning this morning. Then Dave suggested that we go to the water to eat lunch. I suggested Columbia, and that was where he was thinking. It was a beautiful day to eat outside.
This afternoon we started packing some of our food stuff.
We're back home in Clearwater...and now the busy begins. I think we're going to leave on Tuesday if the weather up north cooperates. So we've got a week to get in our dentist appointments, pack, clean, etc. Sounds like fun!!
Everyone of the family went back to work/school today, so we were on our own. We started our day at Lester's Diner for breakfast/lunch. Mmmm good! Eggs, bacon, hash browns, pancakes...great food. Then we drove down A1A to see the pretty beaches. It was so calm today that there wasn't even a breaker in sight. Beautiful sights!
After a short nap, we went to Jami's for Dave's final daddy-do jobs and dinner. It's always sad to say goodbye to Jami and her family. :( We'll see them again in November!
We've had a couple of good but busy days and nights. Yesterday we were at Jami's all day. Dave and Jami did daddy-do things while the kids entertained me. We came home about 8:00. Not home, but back to our timeshare. Then today didn't start until about noon, but it was more of the same. Dave & Jami working, Megan & Danny in the pool (even though it was pouring down rain!), Kelly was working on community service hours, and Grandma was reading! Since today was Tom's birthday, we went to Joe's Crab Shack for dinner. Fun times!
It was a beautiful day for a drive across the state of Florida. It was hot and windy, though, so didn't see much wildlife. We saw a pair of Sandhill Cranes and their 2 colts and numerous vultures...but that's it. It was so windy that even the grackles were having a hard time staying upright! They walked around with their tails out at an angle for balance.
Our first evening ritual here is to go to Sweet Tomatoes for supper. Tom & Jami's friend, Monsignor Tom joined us too. It's always good to see him.
Our timeshare is beautiful and very quiet. We're in an end unit which cuts down on hall noise!
Since it was Thursday, I got to sleep in this morning...until 7:15. But the most fun is that I don't have to get dressed for the day until 10 or so! I love that!
We had a Red Hat lunch today...at The Legion for Taco Thursday. Their tacos are good...they're not really Mexican tasting, but good anyway. You get 3 of them with a helping of yellow rice for $7.00. It was a gorgeous day to sit out by the water and enjoy good conversation with a dozen ladies sporting red hats and purple and red clothing!
This afternoon, I took a little nap and finished a book...in reverse order! Then this evening, we're packing to go to Ft Lauderdale. We'll leave in the morning and be back home on Tuesday. It'll be good to see Jami and the kids one more time before we leave for the summer.
It was a hot, sticky one here today. I'm pretty sure the feels like temperature was at least 90. It didn't stop us, though. We just powered through!
We went up to the clubhouse to help move out some "stuff" first thing. After we got that all cleaned up, we went shopping at Bealls and ran some errands. I wonder when Bealls is going to get their shorts/summer clothes in! Seems to me that it's time. I'm also wondering why Dept 222 clothes are so see-through. I love some of their clothes, but I'm not going to wear a camisole or something to that effect under the shirts just to keep them from being so see-through. Therefore, I didn't buy any of their brand. Too bad for them.
This afternoon was even more purging at the clubhouse. We threw out "stuff" that had expiration dates of 2012!! Why would people keep that stuff so long?
Bingo tonight was rather chaotic. I won $14, but I'm having trouble with everyone talking constantly and the caller yelling into the microphone! I have to come home to unwind before it's bedtime! Grrr..........
First of all, what in the heck is happening to our Cubs? Where is this team that was together in the pre-season? That's my first maniacal thought. My second maniacal thought is why did I ever go to play cards tonight. I could swear there was a full moon or something. If I were a drinking person, I'd be hitting the bottle pretty darn hard about now. There were 10 of us and I played at the same table with Chris, Debbie, and Millie. We only got 3 games in...it took forever! Way too much down time for me - talking, trying to figure out what to play, etc. Grrr........... I love playing cards, but not like that. I'm pretty much wound up tighter than a drum. Hope I calm down before bedtime.
Fabulous service this morning at church!! Then we joined about 35 friends at Sand Key for Easter dinner and communing with nature. It was hot, but breezy, so it was good sitting out! Great day, great food, and great friends!
It was another gorgeous day here and must have been a nice one in Iowa too. Kyle put a video on facebook showing Blaise jumping in puddles in shorts no less.
We didn't do much today. Dave took a long nap, but I didn't take one at all. I actually slept really well last night. This evening we had our last massages of the season. The next ones we have will be in Waterloo. When we got home, Dave helped me make up a hash brown casserole to take to the beach tomorrow for Easter on the Beach. We'll go to regular church and use the oven's time bake feature to cook the potatoes while we're gone. Then when church is over, we'll come home, change clothes and head to Sand Key for fun in the sun with our friends and neighbors!
PS: That darn baby giraffe finally got here this morning. He's a cutie!
Another beautiful day here! We decided we'd better go to Sawgrass to see the anhinga chicks before they fledged and left their nests. We had a great day seeing them. The biggest ones numbered 4. As you can see they're big, but their wings are just little bitty. I think it'll be a little while before they can fly. When they get ready, they want to be good, because there's usually a rather large alligator under their nest.
The nest on the other side has 3 much smaller chicks...anyway that's what I counted. We can't see them as well.
Fun Friday. My team even won at cards tonight - by 7,000 points!
Dave did his thing with the lawn crew at church today...from about 6:30 until 10:30. Then we got ready for the rest of his special day. After we did a little shopping at Bed Bath & Beyond, we headed out to John's Pass to meet Sudi & Howard for lunch. We sat outside near the water and we got entertained! There was a manatee and numerous dolphins, and LOTS of boats! Plus then entertainment at Gators was really good...but a bit loud!
We came home and took short naps, then picked up Don & Pat to go to Maundy Thursday services at church. It was a very beautiful, solemn service with communion. They had a 45 member choir and a 17 member orchestra, plus 2 pastors. True meaning of the Holy Season.
Small group today at coffee, but a few more came for the meeting a bit later. This was our last meeting of the season. The Board doesn't meet from May until November (maybe October...I guess I'd better find that out!)
I felt better today. My cough is back tonight, but it's time for some more of that wonderful cough syrup.
My goodness...what a beautiful day we had today...and what a beautiful evening, too. The moon is just gorgeous! I'm watching the Cubs game which is being played in Chicago. The fans are freezing. They can see their breath!! I'm not ready to go home yet.
I feel a little better today but still have that darn noisy cough. Wish it would go away.
Church was good as usual. Jeremy did the sermon today. I like it better when Jack preaches, though. We went to JDs for breakfast after church...yum. This cold or allergies or whatever is starting to get me down, so I went to bed for a couple of hours. I am not so tired now, but I may have to go to the doctor to get some medicine. Maybe I'll feel all better in the morning.
We took the day off. Dave got up late. Unfortunately I was up at 3:30. I kept coughing and I didn't want to waken Dave. So I came out to my chair where he wouldn't hear my cough so badly. I tried to go back to bed around 7:30, but it didn't work. Instead I took an hour nap this afternoon. I've still got my cough so I'm afraid I'll be in my chair again tonight.
Bob's made it to Dyersburg, TN. Said it took an extra hour from Montgomery to Birmingham. I'd like to find a way around that area. Wonder if I can??
Man, was it ever windy again today! We went to Sawgrass to see if we could see the baby anhingas. Mommas (or papas??) were on the nests and holding on for dear life! I didn't get to check our pictures yet - too busy!
After that, we went to the Legion for lunch. We made sure that we could get at a table with Bobbi and her family. There were even whitecaps on the intercoastal!
Then we went to John's Pass to see Dave's cousin, Mark. Today is his birthday and they're leaving for Georgia tonight so it was fun to spend some time with them. After Bob & Ann got home from golfing, we spent some time with them. Ann and I played cards, then we told them goodbye. They leave in the morning.
Yesterday and today were both slow days. Most of the activities are done for the year, except for bingo and 7s from Hell. We will have another breakfast and Easter on the Beach, but that's it. People are packing up to go home. Bob's and Gary's leave Saturday morning, as does Toni across the street. Others are leaving next week. It'll be pretty quiet around here...a ghost park!
Dave and I are having allergy issues, and mine has turned into a big deep cough. Last night I went to bed early, only to be awakened by a thunderstorm and lots of rain. We needed it, big time. Tonight I'm watching baseball - the Blue Jays at Tampa Bay. The Rays are about to lose. I got to watch a Cub win this afternoon, though. Yay!
Dave suggested we go to Tampa to the Lowry Park Zoo. So after he did his exercises and we had our breakfast, we took off for the zoo. It was a hot one, but we enjoyed our outing. Here are a couple of my favorite pictures from today.
We took a lot of pictures and got some good ones! There were lots of little screaming kids there today and I don't think the animals liked the screaming very well. Some of them appeared to be agitated.
Tonight I was the big winner at bingo! Yay! I hadn't won for 7 weeks so I really needed to win!
We had a leisurely morning around here. Neither of us got up until close to 8. Dave suggested we go to the Celery Fields and then to see Roberta before she heads back up North. It was certainly hot at the Celery Fields - our car said it was 90. They said that Clearwater set a new record high today at 91. We saw very few birds, but we did see baby limpkins and that was a treat!
Church was good this morning. We had communion after a good sermon. Then we went to the water to eat. We ended up at The Hut...Scully's waterfront pub/grill. It was nice, but the chairs are too low to see the water. Until they get high tables and high chairs, we'll not be eating there. Our waiter said they were working on that. It was good food, though!
Now I'm watching the Cubs game. I'm so glad that Cubs baseball is back!
I didn't sleep much last night. Bob fell over his footstool and hit the concrete...with his face! I was outside when he did it, so I went running over, barefoot and all. He broke his glasses and scraped his face up pretty good, but he was able to get his glasses fixed today so he's feeling better. Thank you, Lord!
Dave and I went to Sawgrass today. We saw lots of critters and had a beautiful day. We picked up Subways on the way home and ate on the lanai. Then it was nap-thirty!!
Today was a day of R&R and I needed it. Even Dave took it easy today. I didn't even play cards tonight. Anita drew the short stick but she had gone home last time, so I changed with her. I'll play again on Monday.
We had our house looking really good this morning, 'cause company's coming! After coffee this morning, Dave's cousins, Nancy, Joe, and Mark, along with their spouses, came over to see us and to see Roberta who was here with her friends Merle and Velma. We had a house full of people! Fun times!
The cousins didn't stay long. Merle, Velma, Roberta and Dave & I went to Cheddars for lunch. That place has really good food! Then we came home and both took short naps before leaving again for supper. Vicki had invited us to go to Post Corner with the family for their last evening meal in Florida. It was a gorgeous sunset tonight!
Tuesdays are B&B days and today was no exception. It was our last day of bowling for the season - until November 7th when we start up again. I finished as 3rd high women's bowler...I got better as the season progressed. Dave unfortunately ended as low men's bowler. Bless his heart - he still likes to bowl. Me, not as much!
After lunch we had time for a short nap and then at 4:30 we left for Spectrum Field for the last half of B&B - baseball. Since Vicki, Al, and Allison are here we went to see the Phillies and the Blue Jays. It was a rough night for the Phillies. Neither team was spectacular, but the Phillies were awful tonight - no pitching and no hits to speak of. Oh well, it was a fun night to sit outside at a ballgame!
This was a bit of a catch-up day. We've been going pretty hard for about two weeks, so today was a day that we could catch up on some of things that we've been neglecting. Tonight I played cards while Dave did his exercises and watched tv. We had a chance to go to Whiskey Joe's with the family, but Dave was tired and wanted to stay home.
Our busy-ness continues. Today we went to church and then this afternoon and evening we spent with Dave's family at their condo on the beach. It was a fun evening. Four first cousins and their spouses, two of the next generation, one of the second generation, and 3 couples who went to school together! We watched a pretty sunset and had a good meal.
Whew! What a whirlwind! The last two days have been busy, busy, busy! Yesterday I went with the family to Sawgrass where we walked and walked around the boardwalk. We saw small alligators, one big one, a pileated woodpecker, and 4 nests - 3 anhinga nests and 1 cormorant nest. All had mommas sitting on eggs. Should be fun to get pictures of babies this year because 3 of the nests are in plain sight. The 4th nest is hidden in the trees.
After lunch I went to the clubhouse to help get ready for the pool party. We entertained 70+ people with burgers and hot dogs at that. Then clean up afterwards and 7s from Hell after that!
Today started a bit slower, but this afternoon we had massages. Then at 5:00 we had our annual potato bake. Another 70+ people were at that! Delicious food!! I was exhausted from my massage but Ann wanted to play dominoes so I taught them how to play the game Maury and Roberta played. I just got home!
I'm so excited! My niece and her family are coming for a week. Their plane should land in about 5 minutes at St Pete/Clearwater. Bob & Ann just left to pick them up. I feel like I haven't seen them forever! I hope we get to enjoy them while they're here.
Today was a typical Thursday. Dave went to work at church and I slept in!! Then tonight we went to play trivia at Fat Cat's. We didn't do so well tonight. The trivia tonight had things like vexiollogy, dreys, and ludology, as well as organs of the body. We were really bad on the 3rd round. The final question was, what philosopher, mathematician said "I think, therefore I am." We came up with 4 different answers, but none of them was the right answer...needless to say, we sucked tonight!! It was still fun, though.
We had a bit of a quiet day today. I worked on the newsletter and the April calendar and got them done. I'll send them to be printed first thing tomorrow morning. I also got the tax papers finished and Dave mailed them off. Then I was able to get the bowling spreadsheet finished and sent off to Chris. Whew! It's almost like having a job!
This evening we had two places to be, but we chose to go to a housewarming party at Sudi & Howard's. What a fun evening. Talked to some very interesting people whose names completely escaped me already. One was a neurologist and one sold water purifiers. Another one married very well, but is now widowed. Fun times!
The fun shuffleboard tournament is over! Bob & his partner Coreen won the doubles tournament. Yay, Bob!
I didn't go bowling this morning. I've been having problems with Word and this morning I got on the chat line with Microsoft to see what was happening. Since I have a subscription to Office 365, they reinstalled it and now everything seems better. I was still on chat with them when it was time to leave, so I told Dave to just go without me.
My shuffleboard days for 2016 are over! Today was the start of the doubles tournament. Sue and I are partners and we got beat our first match and then went to the consolation round. We lost our first match there, which means we are done for the season. I plan to help out by keeping score tomorrow as the doubles tournament continues...after bowling!
Church this morning was very inspirational...Pastor Jack had a great message! After church, we came home, changed clothes, and then went to the clubhouse for lunch. Mmmm, good! If you want a wonderful sandwich for $3.50 (crab salad, tuna salad, chicken salad, or egg salad) and/or a bowl of either corn chowder, clam chowder, or chili) for $3.50, come to the clubhouse either Monday or Tuesday from 11:30 to 1:00 and join us. We also have cakes/pies for dessert and soft drinks - all for $1.50!! These items are made by Marv/Betty/John/Nancy who are from Vermont and have been chefs/bakers for colleges back east for years. Wonderful cooks.
After lunch, it was time for some more shuffleboard. I ended up playing another 5 games today. I took 4th in the consolation round. Piece of trivia...in the 14 games I've played in the last 2 days, I've shot 112 frames! That's a bunch!! After shuffleboard, it was home for ice packs and a nap, followed by an evening of wonderful basketball!
Yesterday was Saturday to me, all day! I thought we were going to church this morning and shuffling this afternoon! Dave told me that it was only Friday and I adjusted. Yesterday I worked on taxes all day. I still need two K-1s and then I have everything. Both companies were supposed to send me copies by email yesterday afternoon...I didn't get either one...grrrr. I guess I'll call again on Monday.
Last night we had a wedding in the rec hall. I went to the reception. Dave was helping Della pack for her move to Sarasota/Bradenton.
Today Dave went with Gilles and Della to her new condo to unpack the truck. I, however, had to shuffle in our shuffleboard tournament. We started the singles portion of the double elimination tourney at 10:00. I played three matches of three games each...that's nine games in six hours. My hip is on ice right now! I lost my first match to Gary, but beat Ann and beat Pat. Now tomorrow I play Coreen and she'd pretty good too, so I'll probably end up playing 3 games again. A match is best 2 out of 3 games. I'd like to advance, but we'll see.
Tonight my Cyclones play Purdue, but not until 9:40 our time so I'll be up late again.
Well, it's way past our bedtime, but we had to stay up to watch our Cyclones!! WTG, guys! That was a little too close for comfort!
Our day was pretty relaxing up until the last half of the game! We hung out here, working on taxes, etc. Then we went to Fat Cat to play trivia. We did pretty well on the first round and very well on the beer round...but we sucked on the 3rd round. Basically we guessed on a bunch of them. We then had help on the bonus question, but we still finished 13th. Oh well...next week's beer round is "organs of the body" - we might do better on that!
I bowled pretty well today - not great, but I wasn't disappointed. I can't say the same for bingo. I'm getting tired of not winning.
At bingo tonight, I had too many duties. I counted the money, divided up the money, handed out the money, and wrote down the results. Hopefully Sandy and her family will get back tomorrow - they're snowed in back east somewhere.
We have had a lazy day. Jami and the kids went home about 2:00 and since then we've just hung out. We just got off of Skype with Bryan and Aidan. They also have a foster baby that's only about 2 weeks old. Aidan was in the bathtub...I think that's the easiest way to corral him!! He was just chattering tonight. He said a couple of words...but mostly just jibberish. He told us Bryan's shirt was blue, but then so was the bathtub!! Bryan says he tells you he's two, but he wouldn't do it for us. He did say peek-a-boo, though!
Had a fun day at Busch Gardens! Now I'm tired and ready for bed! Jami and the kids aren't home yet. I'm sure they closed down the park! We got home in time to see most of the second half of the Cyclone vs West Virginia game. We won and we're Big 12 Champs the last 3 out of 4 years!
Tomorrow will be a big day - it's Selection Sunday so the Cyclones (along with 63 other teams) will know where they're "dancing". We're going to Whiskey Joe's for lunch and then seeing the kids off.
