Thursday

Dave didn't go work at church this morning, but he did go to breakfast with the guys.  I just was a slug this morning.  I got to watch "The View" and then we went to Sawgrass to walk.  Unfortunately the boardwalk was closed because a helicopter was "spraying" or something for mosquitoes;  They said it would open in about 35 minutes, but we were there for over an hour and it still didn't open.  There was a busload of kids on a science field trip - they didn't get to see much wildlife.

This evening we went to the clubhouse for taco night.  Delicious!!

Wednesday

We went back to the doctor this morning.  Dr Roberts told us that Dave's lens is exactly on!!  And his eyesight had improved a whole bunch!  So now we're ready for next week's surgery on the other eye.

When we got home, I went up to play shuffleboard.  I actually won both of my games today!  The rest of our day was just hanging out.

Tuesday

Dave had a procedure this morning to fix his slipped lens in the eye he had worked on last week.  First of all, we sat for 2+ hours before they even took him back to prep him for the procedure.  It was another 2 hours before they called me back and it was all done.  Last week I got to sit with him before he went into the procedure room, but not this week.  Thank goodness I wore jeans and had on a sweatshirt because after 4 hours in that freezing room, I was chilled to the bone!  When we left the surgical center, we both had our heated seats on high!!

Dave slept most of the rest of the afternoon.  Says his eye has some pressure, but he can see better than he could last week.  Back to the doctor in the morning...early again.

Monday

Today was  a lazy day for me.  I didn't get around until after 10:00.  After my shower, I watched "The View" and then after a while, Dave and I went to Walmart for a few things.  I got my walk in.  Unfortunately I didn't get a long walk in - maybe tomorrow when we get home from Dave's procedure.  It's supposed to be really nice temperature-wise for the next few days!  Gotta love that!

Ten of us played cards tonight.  Fun times!

Sunday

Church was great.  Pastor talked about reconciliation.  Reconciliation means talking and not giving up - trying to come to an understanding, but still loving the person/group with opposing views.  Wouldn't it be nice if Washington, DC could get this message.

After lunch, Ann, Barb and I went to see "Nice Work if you Can Get It".  Very good play with wonderful music by the Gershwins.

Saturday

Another hot day in the neighborhood!  At least today there was a steady breeze blowing to help cool you down!

We ran some errands this morning.  Went to Sam's Club to pick up a few things.  I took advantage of the a/c and did my walking in there.  Don't go to Sam's on the weekend, folks!  It's really, really crowded!!

This afternoon, we met Suzy and Greg for an early supper at Woody's River Roo in Ellenton.  It turned out to be a great day to sit out.  We split an order of blackened chicken nachos.  Pretty good and by splitting a meal, it was just the right amount of food.

Friday

This morning, Dave had another eye doctor appointment.  Guess what?  His new lens has shifted.  Dave remembers the doctor saying (during the procedure) that he was having a hard time getting the lens in the right spot.  So now, Tuesday Dave has to have this one fixed instead of having his other eye done.  Dave's brother and his wife will be here the week after, so his right eye won't get done until the 12th of March.  Disappointed!!

It was a hot one here today!  At 1:30ish it was 87 but felt like 91 degrees!  We were sitting at Bahama Breeze with friends from Indiana outside.  Dave and I were in the sun and I got sick as we got up to leave.  Dave went to the bathroom and I had to sit down our I was going to pass out.  When Dave got back, he helped me get inside in the a/c.  I got a menu and fanned myself, plus the host brought me a glass of water.  After a few minutes - maybe 15 - I felt better and was able to get home.  I went in to lie down and went to sleep for over an hour!!

Thursday

We had a pretty quiet day today.  Dave and I cleaned the house to get ready for guests tomorrow.  Friends of his from Indiana are coming by tomorrow after Dave's doctor's appointment.  We plan to go to lunch with them and then I think they're on their way to Disney.

I went to a WW meeting tonight with Denise.  Good workshop - very inspiring!    I walked this afternoon in the heat and I worked on the March newsletter this evening.  Boring, huh?

Wednesday

Took Dave in to see the eye doctor this morning.  He said Dave's eye is on schedule.  Thought he'd get better sight all day...and he has!  He can cover his bad eye and finally read license plates with his "new" eye.  Yay!  He was pretty scared this morning when everything was still blurry.

When we got home, I went up and played shuffleboard - got there in time for one game.  Didn't play well, but by the end of the game I was doing better.  It sure showed that I hadn't played for almost 2 years!

I got my walk in today.  We had a strong wind all day which helped relieve us of the humidity.

Tuesday

We were at West Bay Surgical Center this morning bright and early.  It was another day of hurry up and wait!  We were there at 7:45 and he was finally taken to the OR at 9:45.  His 7-minute surgery took a bit longer - I don't know how long for sure, but they didn't call me back until about 11:00.  Then we left there about 11:30.  Dave slept a bunch today which was good.  He's starting to get his sight back in that eye.  Tomorrow morning we go to the doctor's office at 8:45 so we get to sleep a bit longer.

It was pretty warm here today.  I did, however, get my walk in.  I didn't take a long one, but I did walk at least.

Monday

Summer arrived here today.  Lots of humidity and heat!  There was a nice breeze at least, but when I went for my walk I thought I would melt because of the humidity.  It's nice not being cold, though!!

Tomorrow morning Dave has his first cataract removed.  Keep him in your prayers!

Sunday

After church today, we went to Ruth Eckerd Hall for a concert - The Golden Boys!  Fabian, Frankie Avalon, and Bobby Rydell!  Fantastic two hours!  Great music.  They still look pretty good for being 76, 78 and 77 respectively - and they can still sing!

Frankie had his son on drums and harmony was provided by Don Everly's son - they did a tribute to the Everly Brothers, Elvis, Ricky Nelson, Bobby Darin, Bill Haley - fabulous!

Saturday

Wow - today was a beautiful, but busy, day!  Started off with our monthly breakfast at the clubhouse, which was good as usual!  Then after cleanup Dave and Shirley came.  The 3 of us went to Sawgrass one last time for a leisurely stroll and to hopefully see a WHOLE alligator!  We did it.  Unfortunately it wasn't a big gator.  We saw two that were around 2-3 years old...but Shirley said through their binoculars they looked big!!  It was a great day to be at the park!

After our stroll thru the park, we went to Gators in Treasure Island to meet Sudi & Howard for a late lunch.  Good food and good friends - nothing better!!

Then to top off the day, about 40 of us played Court Whist at the clubhouse!  Didn't get home until 10:00.  Long day!

Friday

Today the six of us met at Whiskey Joe's for a good late lunch.  It was nice to sit outside, but it started to get a bit chilly because the clouds rolled in and blocked the sunshine!

Tonight I played cards but I'm tired now.  Tomorrow's another day!!

Thursday

We had another great day with old friends!  After lunch, Shirley and Dave met us here to go see alligators.  It was a beautiful day so we were hoping to see them at Sawgrass Lake Park.  Unfortunately with wildlife, you just never know!  On our walk to the tower we saw turtles - both softshell and otherwise, ibises, moorhens, yellow crowned night herons and even a pied bill grebe...but no alligators.  While at the tower, Shirley kept seeing the grasses move and sure enough, out popped a pretty big alligator.  Up until this time, we saw a 4' one in the grasses, but this big one's tail was about 6-7 feet.  He never did get his head out of the grasses, though, so we've only got pictures of an alligator's tail!  Oh well, it was a lovely day for a walk!

After all of this, we decided to take them to see the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and Tropicana Field.  We went to the south rest area and enjoyed the view of the bridge in the distance.  It was beautiful with the sun shining on it.

By the time we were done seeing the bridge, it was time to head back home.  We picked up their car and met Sudi & Howard for pizza at Post Corner Pizza.  Pizza was delicious as always and the sunset was breathtaking!

Wednesday

The last two days have been a whirlwind of activity.  My childhood friend is here!!  She and her hubby joined us at the bowling alley where we were able to catch up a bit while Dave and I bowled.  Then they went to lunch with us at PJ's.  Not only that, Sudi & Howard joined us at PJ's so we had a gabfest all through lunch!

Today after lunch we went sightseeing.  We started out at Sand Key and ended our tour at Yellow Banks Groves for orange/vanilla ice cream!  In between, we went to Madeira Beach where we saw a whole pod of dolphin.  The baby kept jumping up out of the water.  We also saw pelicans catching fish and then throwing them up in the air only to catch them again and swallow them.  What a treat!  That was one of the things Shirley and Dave wanted to see - dolphins in the Gulf.

We also took them to Pass a Grille where we saw some more beautiful waves on the Gulf.  We pretty much had the beaches all to ourselves because it was windy and cold out there!

I've just rested this evening and now I'm ready for bed!

Beautiful day here today.  Unfortunately I was very busy with a board meeting and board work most of the day.  I did have time to get a massage at least.  Tomorrow will be another busy one!

Sunday

I checked out of blogging this past weekend because Jami was here and I was hardly ever on my computer!  Sorry about that.  We had a great time with Jami.  She came alone on Friday night.  We sat around and gabbed on Friday.  Then Saturday we went to Sawgrass for a walk around the park.  We saw several birds and 4 alligators - one large one, the rest 2-4' long.  Then as if we hadn't had enough walking, we took off for St Petersburg for their Saturday farmers market.  We hadn't been there yet this season, so that was fun.  We walked (along with hundreds of other people) and walked...then we walked to get a late lunch.  After all of that, I hurt pretty bad, so when we took Jami to the marina there, she and Dave walked to the water and I stayed in the car.  That evening the three of us played dominoes.

Today we went to Sarasota to see Roberta.  I drove our car and Dave rode with Jami.  That gave him and Jami a little more daddy-daughter time.  We took Roberta up to the pool for lunch and then we took off for home.  Jami got home about 6:30.

Thursday

The electrician was at our house again today.  Now we're done!!  I don't like to be here while he's here, so I went shopping!  I went to Weight Watchers first and weighed in.  Then Bealls was my next stop.  I bought a couple of pairs of shorts and some undies.  Then Dave wanted me to pick up a few groceries, so I went to Publix.  I needed a new little calculator so Walmart was my last stop.  I got home for a little while and worked on Board paperwork for a while out in the lanai.  Then I had a haircut scheduled for two and I just knew he'd be done by the time I got home...WRONG!  So I fiddled around a bit, then went for a walk.  I stopped and visited with Tony & Denise for about 40 minutes, knowing that they'd be done when I got home...WRONG AGAIN!!!  He was just finishing up when I got home.

We sat out and visited with Bob for a long time this evening.  It was a gorgeous day here - didn't want to go in.  We had all the windows open all day so the house smells wonderful!

Wednesday

It finally felt like Florida here today.  We had a beautiful day - probably close to 80 degrees and plentiful sunshine.  Coffee this morning.

John, Gayle, Dave, and I then went to a brunch at the bowling alley.  It was an appreciation brunch for the different leagues that bowl there.  Since Betty and Chris neither one could go, Betty asked us to go in their places.  Great food and we learned about several activities they have at the bowling alley.  They also had a drawing for a cruise for 2 to the Bahamas.  Gayle won it!!  They've never been on a cruise before.  It should be a nice little get-away.

B&B

I bowled this morning after being off for a month doing radiation.  I've sure got sore muscles this evening!  I didn't believe I could have so many muscles that I haven't been using!

Other than bowling and bingo, there wasn't much going on.  We are now watching the SOTU but I'm about to be sick.  He makes everything about himself.

Monday

Dave and I both slept in this morning.  He didn't get up until 8 and I didn't get up until  about 8:30!  That's unheard of for Dave!   If we don't get up earlier tomorrow, we'll miss bowling!

We went to the eye doctor's office this afternoon where they measured Dave's eyes for the lens they'll put in during his cataract surgery.  He's got quite a schedule for the next month or so!

I went for a long walk this afternoon and then played cards this evening.

Super Bowl Sunday

We had a great Sunday at church again this morning.  We even heard an original song by Lisa Noe called "It Takes a Village".  She's so good!  We went out for breakfast with Heckarts to Acropol.

Since today was the Super Bowl, I made my chili soup this morning before church.  Then made the Hidden Valley oyster crackers after we got home.

Tonight was a good party at the clubhouse.  Not glad that New England won, but they were definitely the best team tonight. I'm ready for some other team to win.

Saturday

Had a very enjoyable photography class this morning.  This is the 4th class of the beginner level.  Now I'm ready for the intermediate classes.  Wonder when they start??  I guess I'll have to find out.  Advanced starts tomorrow, but I'm not ready for that!

Got home from class, ate lunch, and spent much of the afternoon at Fort DeSoto.  I have never seen the water so still.  It was like glass today.  We saw dolphins and many birds.  Great day to be out in nature!

Guess what?  My brother came over this morning to tell Dave that he wanted to work on the backsplash today - yay!!!  So we have a beautiful new backsplash!

I also had my celebratory massage this afternoon and tonight I played cards.  It was a great day!
