Great Sunday!

This was another beautiful day!  Church was FANTASTIC this morning!  Mark Hanson & Joel Harris sang their medley of patriotic hymns and caused many tears to be shed!  Then Joel played Amazing Grace on the bagpipes to end the service - very touching.  Pastor David's 4th installment from Job was very provoking.  His sermon covered Job 38-40 where God asks Job about 100 questions.  How would we answer if God asked us those questions.  Next Sunday wraps up PD's series on Job...we're going to miss him.  Pastor David will start a series on Nehemiah soon.  You won't want to miss it!

We went to lunch with the Bunch for Lunch crowd - went to 2nd Street Cafe!  Good food, good company! Then home so Dave could take a nap before he washed the vehicles!  Also a friend came by with a loaf of bread that he had made with rye meal.  It is wonderful!!

Great day!

Today was a great day!  I got to have the windows and doors open and at one time, I even got cold!  I was sitting right by the window and was drinking ice water...that may have contributed to my chill!  It was also a great day because HB got home from the hospital - I'm sure he's happy about that, too!  It was a strange day weather-wise, though.  One minute sunshine and the next a shower!  It was like God couldn't figure out what he wanted us to experience today!

Dave worked until he got rained out and then he went to Habitat.  Tonight we ate leftovers and now we're relaxing!  I got my studio back to normal again, AND I got my card for July 8th almost all cut out!  I also had a fun day watching the squirrels chase each other all over the tree west of our office window!  There were 4 of them just having a grand old time!  Their little claws make so much noise on the tree bark, that you automatically turn to see what's going on!

Friday in O-town

What a gorgeous day!  The humidity was down, the sun was out, the sky was blue, the world was beautiful, and the wind was blowing!  This morning I demo'd three cards at stamp club and I think everyone enjoyed them!  They made some pretty cards, those ladies did!!

This afternoon, Ann, Juliene, Marge and I played 7s from Hell.  We're wanting to get this going so we could play cards every once in a while here in Iowa, too.  It was a fun way to spend an afternoon.  Unfortunately, Juliene and I got beat, but we made a huge comeback in the last hand!

Busy day

I had a busy day today and now I'm pooped!  Tomorrow, however, is going to be even busier!  Today, Dave didn't wake me up to tell me goodbye, so I actually slept until  7:15.  I missed telling him goodbye, but I liked sleeping a bit later!  He left at 6:30 this morning, so I got an extra 45 minutes - yippee!!

I had a meeting with Juliene to plan our strategy for the rest of the summer.  Then I went to Fairfield for lunch with some of the class of '66!  There were several of us there - Becky, Mary Thomas., Marie Droz., Linda Roland, Linda Winters, Bob Olson, Ed Miller, Dennis Smithburg and me.  Had a good time chatting and reminiscing!

At 1:00 I headed back to Ottumwa and worked on my presentation for tomorrow.  We're making 3 cards - hopefully they'll like them.  This evening I went to Fremont for a visitation.  One of my sorority sister's dad died and his visitation was this evening from 5-7:00.  I stood in line for quite a long time, but I got home just before Dave did.  I finished packing my presentation supplies and fixed supper, then I played some games.

Day After

The sun did come out today, even after the disappointing loss in softball last night.  Of course, it also rained!  Such a  strange summer we're having.  It's 83 here right now and only 77 in Clearwater...plus it poured this afternoon for about 10 minutes and the rest of the day was sunny.  Weird!

I woke up tired today. I sure hope I'm not coming down with something.  I've been really, really tired all day.  I had a massage around lunchtime, and then I just wanted to come home and nap.  I didn't let myself, though, because I want to sleep tonight.

Dave's dad was taken to the ER this afternoon.  He's got some bowel obstruction, plus a 101 fever, plus throwing up and his neck hurts, and he's talking jibberish.  I hope he gets some relief tonight.  They kept him to run some tests in the morning to try to determine what's going on with him.  We may have to make a flying trip to Indiana.

Bummer

I had a very productive day today, considering!  I finished 11 cards and got about 10 more to various stages of completion.  I have wanted to clean out my card file for some time now.  I have several that really only need a saying on the inside of the card, for instance, and I was able to get about half of them completely finished.  Now I've got a goal to finish the rest of them - hopefully tomorrow.

This evening I took Bob & Ann to Washington to watch Allison play ball.  As it turned out, it was her last game of the Y-League season.  They got beat tonight 3-2 by a team that they'd beaten 2x already.  For some reason, every ball our team hit went right at one of their players and they caught it.  We were all really bummed!

I just got home and now I'm going up to bed.  There's always next year!

Muggy Monday

We had a really great Bible Reading Time this morning.  There were 10 of us there and we were missing Mary, Sue, and Jenna...we're growing!!  We're reading about the Last Supper now.  Very interesting discussion on whether Judas had free will to not betray Christ or if he did it because it was prophesied.  Interesting!  Is everything pre-ordained?  Is there a master plan?  Hmmm....

Our garage door stopped working after church yesterday, so this afternoon two yayhoos from The Door Store came to check it out.  It seems to be a burned out computer board, so we're going to just get a new opener instead of paying repair costs.  It's not that much more expensive and it'll have a 5 year warranty on it.  I'm sure this one lasted more than 5 years.

This evening Dave went to a Habitat meeting while I stayed here.  I have my decision made for the cards I'm demoing on Friday and the one I'm doing at our next class.  I also made a gift bag out of two sheets of DSP - took about 5 minutes is all.  Not going to be buying any more gift bags!  This is too easy!

Great day!

This was a nice day!  When we came out of church, it was raining and it rained until about 1:00.  Then it turned off sunny.  Right now, though, I can hear thunder in the distance so we're probably going to get more rain tonight.

Church today was great.  Pastor David talked about Job 23.  I've really enjoyed his series on Job and will hate for it to end.  Job was a truly faithful man.  Following church, we went with the Bunch for Lunch crowd to Appanoose Rapids for their Sunday brunch.  I've had brunch 3 days in a row!!  It was really, really good!

This afternoon, I tried to watch the race, but I fell asleep.  So did Dave and now he's sleeping again.  Poor guy!  I sure hope we both sleep tonight!

Hot again!

It got to 93 today with tons of humidity...the heat index in O-town was 101!  I guess summer is really here!

I had a good day.  I went to a brunch this morning.  There were 8 ladies there - all from our church.  We had a great time.  Good food, good conversation, good friends!  Sally had fixed an egg dish with lots of veggies in it - veggies meaning, peppers, mushrooms, bacon, etc.  She also fixed a blueberry bread pudding type of dish - both of those were scrumptious!  Then Liz brought homemade cinnamon rolls - wow!  Sally also had fresh fruit and mimosas!  Fun time!

This afternoon, I didn't do much.  Dave got home around 4:30, showered, and then we went to the Club for dinner.  There was no one else there...weird!  I guess everyone was out at the balloon races.

Hot & humid!

This was a very hot, humid day!  Yesterday it was 90 and I guess I didn't look at the temperature today.  But I felt hotter today than yesterday!  There was a nice breeze, but when you went outside you were just wet!

We had our PEO meeting this morning and we had it outside at Plum Panache.  It was a lovely place to hold a meeting.  We served the goodies inside in the air conditioning and then went outside to the garden for our meeting.  David and Liz had everything set up, so it was effortless on our part.  We were able to just greet and talk with our sisters instead of worrying about serving, etc.  Many of the ladies told me that it was just lovely!  I'm glad I thought to have the meeting there, although since my cleaning lady came here yesterday, I could have had it here instead!  I enjoyed having it at PP more than I would have had it been here!

The rest of today I just chilled!  Dave didn't get home until about 7 or 7:30 and went right to mowing.  Since we mow both our yard and our neighbor's yard it takes a little longer.  Then about 8:00 he told me he was going across the street to mow because they'd messed up their mower.  So he came in about 9:15 with some fresh veggies from their garden.  I ate my supper about 8:30 and he just ate at 9:30 while I washed the veggies.  He's wired from the prednisone and the steroids from his nebulizer.  Poor guy!  I hope he can sleep tonight.

Tired, tired, tired!

I had one of those nights last night - I couldn't sleep.  I was still awake at 3:30 this morning.  Dave laughed because he got up at 4:00.  We almost met each other in our sleeplessness!  I got up at 6:30 this morning - 3 hours of sleep isn't quite enough for this old broad!  No naps today, though!  My cleaning lady came at 8:00 so I had to hurry, eat breakfast, read the paper, shower and get dressed before she got here - all on 3 hours of sleep - arrrgh!

I had to get groceries today, plus I had to get some tubing for Dave's nebulizer because his split this morning.    They needed a prescription, so I had to call the doc's office, arrange for that to be sent to Hammer Medical and then go back for the tubing kit.  I also went to US Cellular because for the life of me I couldn't answer phone calls on my new phone...it's smarter than I am.  One must sweep to answer, not tap!  I'll get this figured out yet!

This afternoon, Dave and I went to Kalona to watch Allison play ball.  It was a lovely evening for softball!  Allison did a great job, both at bat and on the mound!

Here she is batting - She had a hit, walked once, and had a sacrifice fly - she also scored both times she was on base!
How about this for a picture?  Marilyn brought her gooseberries with her tonight to work on during the game.  Aren't they pretty?  Sour, though - trust me!

Wonderful Day

What a beautiful day we had today.  It was a great day and night for the balloon races to start here in O-town.  I hope to get out there this year to take some pictures.  The balloons are so big and so colorful.  Maybe Friday evening?  That's my plan, anyway.

Today I ran errands again.  This time I had to pick up Dave's shirts, mail a card to Cheyenne whose birthday is tomorrow (I missed the mailman), and get Dave's medicine for his nebulizer (sp?).  I also got my nails done - they were way too long...I was having a horrible time typing!  Then I came home and just enjoyed the day!

I don't think I shared our last cards with you.  We had class a week ago tonight and these are two of the cards we made.  I guess I didn't scan in the one that Juliene demo'd.  These are the ones I showed.  Of course, all products are from Stampin' Up!

We try to do a Christmas card each time and this one is really cool.  You can't tell it by the picture, but the bottom of the card was run through an embossing folder with ink in it.  Therefore the flowers are three-dimensional.  I really like this technique.

This one is called a swing card.  If you were to grasp the card at both sides and pull, the center will swing around.  This one is done in So Saffron, but we made ours in the new In Colors for 2013-15.
This swing card can also be a Christmas card just by changing out the colors!

Now I've got to figure out my Christmas card for next time!

I forgot!

Last night I was busy working on a competition puzzle on Jigsaw World...it was so hard that I shut my computer down at 10:00 and went to bed!  I forgot to blog!  Sorry!

I had a good day yesterday and an even better one today!  My wounds are all healing nicely and the scabs are dropping off - yay!!  Hopefully they'll stop itching once the scabs are all gone!  Today I ran errands for Dave.  Then this evening I went to a Norwex party.  I really like their products.  If you haven't tried any of them, you should!

I just got home and Dave just got home from his church meeting.  He was home for about 15 minutes at supper time.  We get to be together in the winter, I guess.

Happy Father's Day!

It was a lovely day here - mid 80s and the humidity wasn't too bad.  Went to church this morning, forgetting the Pastor David was on vacation.  Becky did the sermon and she did a really good job, but she lacks PD's enthusiasm.  I'm sure that comes from years of study and preaching every Sunday!

After church we went to the Recovery Room with the Bunch for Lunch and had a tenderloin.  We had a new couple join us today.  He's a medical oncologist and a writer - she's also a writer.  Very knowledgeable people - fun to talk with.  They're from the Houston area and just here for 6 months, but said they'd found a church home.

I watched part of the race and then about 2:45 we left to go cruising with Craig & Sue.  We took the old road to Oskaloosa, then over to Eddyville, and took the back road into Albia.  We stopped at the little ice cream shop for sundaes and a gabfest!  We didn't leave Albia until 6:00 or maybe even 6:30.  It was a fun day!  Dave's kids both called him and he called his dad.

I'd call it a pretty good Father's Day!

Soggy Saturday

We're still getting rain - we'd had about .6 of an inch before dark.  It's raining pretty hard now, so who knows how much more we'll have!  I just saw the 7 day forecast and it shows scattered showers on Monday and that's all.  I hope that's right!  I get a little depressed without sunshine - and in June we're supposed to have sunshine!

Allison didn't play ball today so I stayed home and worked on some paperwork.  I have a SU order to turn in, but Juliene wants to wait until Monday because she's gone for the weekend.  Then I've also got to get ready for the next card-making class.  I know of one thing we're going to do - we're going to make a gift bag out of two 12x12 sheets of paper.  Should be fun.  That's Juliene's project, though, so I have to come up with 2 cards still.  One of those cards needs to be a Christmas card.   Hmmm...

Going back to Allison, I took a couple of pictures of her the other night.  Here she is:

She has quite a windup!  It's hard to get a good picture of her while she's pitching, because she doesn't hesitate long before delivering her pitch.

I also took a picture of this little guy.  He/she wasn't about to give up the feeder just because he/she was full and tired.  So instead he/she just plopped down on top of the feeder to sleep.  One foot's even hanging off the edge.  What a riot.

Frantic Friday

I ran a bunch of errands this morning.  I had to go pick up prescriptions from Walgreen's and I had to return something I'd ordered from CJ Banks.  I also needed to go to Fareway for some groceries.  After I returned my clothes to CJ Banks, I noticed a US Cellular store right across from the entrance to the mall.  Dave and I had been talking about getting me another phone, so I took advantage of the fact that there were no customers in the store and got myself a new phone!  I got a Samsung Galaxy Axiom - a smart phone!  Hopefully it's not smarter than I am!!  I finally figured out how to get a ringtone that wasn't awful, and I figured out how to call Dave AND to answer the phone!!

Dave's been  asleep for abut 45 minutes, so I'll have to wake him up just to go to bed.  Bob & Ann leave in the morning for Texas, and I've got to determine if I'm going to watch softball or not.

Thursday

I got to stay home today - I love that, in case you didn't know!  I was supposed to have a massage, but with all of my burn spots, I decided that wouldn't be much fun.  So I've postponed it for a couple of weeks.  This evening, though, I went to Allison's ballgame with Bob & Ann.  We played the other Washington 12U team and we won in extra innings, with 3 of our starters missing because of conflicts!  Yay!  After our game, we were going to go to the WHS varsity doubleheader, but their first game went 12 innings and they hadn't started the second game.  So, we took Allison & Vicki to Unc & Neph's to eat instead!  We just got home. Dave's been asleep in his chair.

There's a leaking gas main just about 1/2 block from us...I hope it doesn't blow up!  They're digging on it now and had all roads to it blocked off.  Hopefully they'll get it fixed safely.  It's one of the high pressure lines - I'm surprised they didn't evacuate us all.  Hmmm...

Hot day today!!

Whew!  It was a hot, humid day here in SE Iowa!  I figured it was going to storm tonight since it was 89 today with high, high humidity.  But it's not supposed to tonight anyway!  Other parts of Iowa had tornadoes this afternoon and evening.  I don't like that!

I went to Pella today to meet Cindy, my friend from Ames.  She's the one who needs a miracle because of her advanced cancer.  She's feeling well and her masses have reduced, so she figures she's living her miracle right now.  She has masses in her kidney, her liver, spots on her lungs, her adrenal gland, and lymph nodes.  She's doing well for now - just taking one day at a time.  We had a great day - enjoying each other's company and catching up!  I hadn't seen her since August.

Summer

It's summer here today.  It was in the 80's with plenty of humidity!  Hopefully it won't rain tonight and then maybe the farmers can get the rest of their crops in the ground.  Yesterday I wore a flannel shirt around here and today I thought about turning on the air conditioner!  Funny that we went so quickly into summer!

I didn't do much today.  I had a church meeting tonight and when I got home I typed up the minutes and sent them out...so now I'm off to bed.

We had BRT this morning, even though Pastor David couldn't be there.  Pastor Jane led us in a discussion of the remainder of John 12.  Dave got called to work about 11:00 so after BRT, I went to the Lucky Rooster and picked up lunch for me.

This afternoon I worked on organizing my pictures on my laptop.  Finally about 5:00 or so it got warm enough that I could actually open windows!  Dave came home and made a 3rd bird/squirrel feeder..  It's a lot of fun seeing what's going to be in the feeders...birds or squirrels!  When he came in around 7:30 we fixed supper and then watched Major Crimes and Maxwell & King on TNT...both good shows!

Great Sunday

Our day started at church, which is pretty much the way every Sunday starts in our lives.  The choir had a wonderful song today - we sang "Moses" by Ken Medema.  We even got applause!!  It's a song we as a choir love to sing and it shows!  The tenors do a fantastic job on this song!  Pastor David started a series on "Job" last week and will go 5 weeks with this book of the Bible.  It's quite a story!  After fellowship, we came home and ate a bite of lunch.  Dave took his usual nap and I read and kept an eye on the Nascar race.  I'm not a fan of the Pocono race track - the races there are boring, IMHO.

This afternoon we did some odd jobs around the house, like laundry and finishing cutting parts for my card demo on Wednesday.  I've just got to put everything together and I'm done!  Yay!  Tonight we've just been hanging out on our computers - boring, I know!

Saturday

Today was a very nice day...good temperature, moderate humidity, no rain (yay)  and I finally got to open the windows!  It's been quite a white since I've gotten to do that.  Dave worked at Habitat all day and I worked in my studio getting ready for Wednesday's class.  I got all of my first demo cut out and most of the second one done.  I should be able to finish this weekend!  Wednesday during the day I'm finally going to get to see Cindy.  We're meeting in Pella around 10:00 but I'll be home before 5:00. I plan to have everything loaded in my trunk just in case we get to talking and forget about the time!

I've been kind of boring lately - sorry.  I'll try to do something fun one of these days!  Then I'll have something to write about.

Friday

I had an appointment today, so I had to wear all of my clothes!  That is not an easy thing to do right now.  I'd just as soon stay home for another day or two.  Maybe by Sunday these wounds won't hurt so badly!  I can hope, anyway!  I had volunteered to represent our church today in asking for donations to the Lord's Cupboard.  I had 1-3:00 at HyVee Drugstore.  The first hour went by very quickly but the second hour, I didn't have much business.  I had shoppers, just people who didn't want to contribute or weren't interested in even listening, or said they didn't have any money, or whatever.  I would just take the paper and then ignore it instead of offering excuses if it were me.

Tomorrow are ballgames in Washington, but I don't think I'm going.  One more day without undergarments sounds like a plan for me.  I can work on my cards for Wednesday night, now that my order came this evening.

Bad day!

It was a bad day for me...but a beautiful day, nonetheless.  I was having a very itchy, feverish type of day.  I was freezing, so I had to wear a jacket or a blanket here in the house.  These "wounds" were very sensitive.  When I took my shower, the water on my back really, really hurt.  So I took 2 Advil and went back to bed after lunch.  I slept for a couple of hours and when I got up, I felt a lot better.  I need to feel better because I've got to gather groceries for the Lord's Cupboard tomorrow for 2 hours.  That means I have to wear clothes since I'm going to be out in public.  I was really hoping not to have to go out until Saturday - figured these would all be scabbed over by then.  We'll see!

Dave worked for a couple of hours this morning and then worked the Food Pantry at church the rest of the day.  He said they served around 110 people again today.  Pretty amazing that there are that many people each month who need food.

Wednesday

I had an appointment to see Dr Hill this afternoon, so after lunch I headed to Fairfield.  Dr Hill  wanted to take off some of my Seborrheic keratoses.  These have to be burned off and before they are burned, they are injected with lanacane to keep them from hurting!  I have tons of these gross things all over me - supposedly they are inherited.  Thanks, Mom & Dad!  I should say I HAD tons of these.  I'm about 50 short tonight.  I'm pretty sure I look like I got shot with a shotgun and have buckshot marks from my neck down to my knees.  It's not a pretty sight!  I should look better in a week or so.  Unfortunately they are itchy now and it's harder than heck resisting the urge to scratch!!

I fixed supper tonight - a rare occurrence!  We had arm roast and new potato halves (boiled and then fried). Then for dessert we had brownies and ice cream with hot fudge and candied pecan pieces.  Yum, yum!  Good thing we don't have brownies around very often.  These were left over from last night's sorority meeting, as was the ice cream.  They're both gone now - yay!

Today started out rainy and is ending up rainy.  In between it was gray and yucky.  I had a meeting here this evening - our last sorority meeting until fall.  Dave came home and thought our house was too cold, so kicked on the furnace.  IT'S JUNE 4TH - WE SHOULDN'T BE NEEDING THE FURNACE!!  Whew, glad to get that off my chest!  By the time everyone got here tonight, I thought it was hot!  We had pizza for our meeting and had brownies and ice cream for dessert. It was good!

Monday??

I was having trouble figuring out what day it was today..  I think it was because the sun was shining beautifully and I'm just not used to it!  It was sure beautiful today...almost perfect for temperature!  I went to BRT this morning where we got into some serious discussions about Jesus' last public teachings - John 12:27-40.  Very interesting.  We missed Liz, Sue, Dan & Juliene, but Jenna and Sheryl were there today - yay!

When Dave got home this evening, we got the '56 out and drove it to Fareway.  Then since it was so lovely, we stopped at Sonic for supper.  Got lots of "thumbs up" while we were driving!  It was a fun evening!

Lazy Day

We went to church this morning as usual, but when we came out it was really cold and gray!  Well, 50's cold anyway.  We had planned to get the '56 out and cruise over to Albia for a hot fudge sundae, but the weather just wasn't conducive for us to want to do that!  Instead we watched the race.  Dave went to the garage and ran a couple of errands while I played my games and then he took a nap while I finished a book.

Tonight there wasn't anything on tv, so we were both on our computers and just whiled away the evening.  Tomorrow is another day, I guess.  Maybe I'll accomplish something while he's gone to work!

Quite a day!

Allison's first game today was at 8:00 AM in Kalona...I didn't make that game!  Her second game was at 11:00 and I made that one!  I drove to Kalona by myself, since Bob & Ann were already there and Dave was working Habitat.  It was a beautiful day for a drive.  Lots of water around farm fields and especially around small creeks!  Small creeks looked like raging rivers today!  It was also a gorgeous day for watching softball.  I just wish the A's were a better team.  Most of these girls have been playing ball for 4 years now and sometimes it looks as if they have no clue what they're supposed to do!  They did improve all day, but they still made stupid mistakes!  I really thought they were going to win the 3:30 game, but a fielding bobble sent the game into a tie and overtime...and we lost by 1.  Bummer!

The 3:30 game was against the Fairfield team which has Erik Allison's daughter on it.  So I had a niece and great-niece on the A's and a 2nd cousin and a 3rd cousin on the Fairfield team.  It was good to see them!

 Mother-daughter confab before a game!
Allison running to 1st base after the 4th ball.
Erik's daughter, McKenna

We got by most of the day without showers...just one little shower during the overtime game.  Enough to get us wet, but not soaked.  After the game while we were driving home, we got into another little shower around Richland.  All in all, though, it was a wonderful day!
